Iraq today has fallen prey to the USA. It is a land which is suffering military
brutality, pillage, the contempt of its people and the robbery of its
resources. Iraq is under the imperialist boot. Because of this, it is normal
and legitimate that Iraqi society resists, even with arms.
Chechnya is in the midst of a despicable war, a cruel occupation by Putin's
armies. States all over the world cower in silent acquiescence. It's normal and
legitimate that the Chechen people refuse to lie down and fight, even with
But resistance against the occupation does not regard all the oppression and
domination, denial and contempt suffered by the common people of those places.
The American powers and their bourgeois auxiliaries from all over the world
exploit the peoples of Iraq. But there is also an Iraqi bourgeoisie that
collaborates with the occupants or carries on its own fight. Both these
resistance fighters or collaborators exploit, oppress and dominate. There
exists a permanent state of woman kept in servitude. There is ongoing
totalitarian pressure by religious groups to keep society in submission.

Both in Iraq and Chechnya, resistance forces against the foreign occupation are
acting in the name of values and objectives of intolerance, exclusion,
exploitation and oppression of the common people. These forces, which are non
other than nascent counter-states, act with the same contempt for people and
the same savagery that the US military introduced. They kill civilians,
slaughter, torture and kidnap in perfect symmetry with the action of the
American or Russian States' soldiers and cops.

The women and men who are organizing the social struggle in Iraq, who are
setting up trade unions, organizations of unemployed people, women's
associations, are being persecuted, injured, repressed and killed by all the
various forces of exploitation, be they imperialist, Great-Russian or those who
resist against foreign occupation.

There is no resistance that can justify the slaughter of twelve Nepalese
workers had come to Iraq to earn a living for themselves and their families by
working on American sites.

There is no national liberation struggle that can justify the premeditated
massacre of children such as in Ossetia. Neither can there be any excuse
whatsoever for the crimes of the Russian army against the people and children
of Chechnya. When resistance movements adopt the values and practices of the
oppressors, the struggle for liberty is soiled and dies, and the road is opened
to new dominations, to new dictatorships, to new horrors.

The hstory of Marxist-Leninism and of many anti-colonialist and
anti-imperialist struggles bear the marks of these horrors.

It is for these reasons and because we have not forgotten, it is especially
intolerable for authoritarian communists, old-style or new, to talk about
"critical support" of anti-imperialist struggles, and thus covering the horror
of a national liberation struggle that treads underfoot the people who are
demanding freedom, the common people.
