In solidarity with the american trade union Unite, members of the
swedish anarchosyndicalist youth organisation (SUF) organized a protest
against two H&M shops in Gothenburg, Sweden. - The problems of
the amarican H&M-workers are also our problems. Multinational
comapnys act in a globalized world. Therefore we also have to act
with global solidarity. Bad working- and employment conditions for
american workers is a threat against us to, says Johanna, one of
the activists who protested against H&M in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Two H&M shops were blocked and pampflet leaflets were spread
to swedish H&M employes and visitors. 15-20 activists
participated in the protest, and they used a banderoll saying: "For
the right to organize trade unions!"
The pampleats said for exemple: "Due to H&M actions aganist
american trade union acivists we - the anarcosyndicalist youth
federation - protest against H&M. We want to show our solidarity
with the H&M employees fight for the right to organize a trade
union, and we want to show our anger against H&M:s expolitation
of other workers.
Right now we demands that all sacked H&M workers get there
jobs back and that H&M accepts the right to organize a trade
union. We also demands that H&M radicala improves the working
conditions for the workers in the third world, and also allow them to
start trade unions."
As it seems right now this protest will be followed by more
protests, both in Gothenburg but also in other swedish cities. The
swedish trade union SAC and the youth organisation SUF has both
benn protesting against H&M before. H&M is well known to
disrespect workers rights, especially in southeast Asia. They have
also been proved to have children working in their sweatshops.
