Usak anarchists organized a panel-discussion titled "rejection 1111
conscientious/total objection" in Usak on Sunday at 14:30. About 40 people
-including Mehmet Bal (total objector), Izmir War Resisters' Association's
former Chairperson Aytek Özel, Abdullah Öztürk from Hatay body of lawyers
(Mehmet Bal's and Usak anarchists' lawyer), Usak anarchists and young
people- attended the panel.
The panel started with exhibition of the short/documentary film "rejection
1111". Later, Aytek Özel told the history of Izmir SKD (War Resisters'
Association) and its activities. Mehmet Bal spoke about his total objection
process, his memories etc. Usak anarchists and lawyer Abdullah Öztürk stated
the importance of conscientious and total objection in anti-militarist
means; then listeners asked questions about total objection and anarchism.
It was stated that the source of militarism is not only the army itself,
from the beginning of the history of mankind we face(d) institutions basing
themselves on militarist arguments and that against these institutions it is
more meaningful and accurate to defend total objection.
The panel ended about 16:30. It was the first time for Usak anarchists to
organize a conscientious/total objection panel in Usak.
