(en) Greece, APO: The race in Lutzerath, Germany (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Tue, 31 Jan 2023 09:35:38 +0200

Intervention at the German consulate in Thessaloniki by the anarchist political organization (thessalonica), in solidarity with the fighters in Lutzerath, Germany. ---- The village of Lutzerath located in western Germany, in the state of North Westphalia-Rhineland, has recently been the target of repression. Specifically, after the sale of the last plot to the mining company RWE, there was a plan to evacuate the village in order to expand the lignite mine that has been operating in the area since 2006. Something that happened on Wednesday 11/1, after a large police operation using water pumps, dogs, tanks, as since 2020 thousands of supporters have flocked to the area determined to defend the village and its natural wealth to the end. On Sunday 15/11 there was a major attempt to recapture with the participation of over 30,000 people, but despite the many hours of clashes with the repression forces, it was not crowned with success. The village of Lutzerath will be the latest in a series of over 20 villages that, after being dispossessed and deserted, were looted and turned into vast construction sites to serve the interests of the mining industry. It is worth emphasizing that this particular agreement, which was signed with the blessings of the Green party and under the guise of covering the energy needs of the German state, is defiantly characterized as "environmentally friendly" as it prevents the destruction of another 5 villages.

Once again we witness state threats, evacuations of public spaces, repressive strikes, scandalous deals aimed at plundering the natural world. It may be that this time the specific events are taking place far from Greece, but the thread that connects this fight with hundreds of others, both domestically and internationally, is the gluttony of capital, the efforts to maximize the profits of the bosses whatever the consequences, the continuous and ever-intensifying attack on the interests of the social base, in short the barbaric nature of the state-capitalist system. What in the language of the technocrats is called development through investment, privatization, etc., in the language of the oppressed must be translated as unceasing devaluation and impoverishment of their lives. Let's not laugh, the ever-expanding control of vast areas of the planet and their exploitation by capitalists for the realization of profitable activities, can only "offer" death to people of our class.

In Greece there are countless examples. From the thousands of acres of burnt land in the summer of 2021 due to the criminal indifference of the ND government and the looting of mountains and forests across the territory for the construction of wind farms, to the plans for gold mining in Halkidiki and the construction of a hydroelectric dam on the Acheloos River , the dangerousness of state-environmental policy, always interspersed with "green development" programs due to supposed ecological concerns, is revealed. In the same context, the destruction of various public spaces within the urban fabric can be included, such as the Strefi hill, the Cyprus and Patision park in Kypseli, the Exarchia square, under the pretext of their regeneration to better serve the needs of the residents of the respective area. As well as the evacuations of social spaces and occupations that are supposed to be aimed at returning them to society and creating a climate of "order and security". But in reality all these movements reflect the eternal purposes of the world of power, which are none other than the unstoppable hoarding of the bosses at the expense of the social base on the one hand, and the annihilation on the other hand of every pocket of resistance that develops within society and stands as an embankment in the encroachment of state and capital.

In these difficult circumstances it is therefore necessary to support those who resist and fight against the impoverishment and death imposed by the capitalist system. To give a hand to those who claim to improve living conditions and fight with a vision to build a better society, without exploitation and inequality. To stand strong, not to give up the fight and by thickening our lines, forging social and class resistances, to go on the counterattack.
