In a regular column, we publish a report on our activities for the past year. If
you want to support us, we will be happy if you print out a leaflet informing
about our activities and actively distribute it in the streets, schools or at
concerts. ---- The Ostrava Anarchist Federation (OAF) was founded in autumn 2016
on the initiative of North Moravian anarchists (mainly from Ostrava,
Frýdek-Místek, Ceský Teín and Orlová). The main impetus for the creation of the
OAF was the repression against the anarchist movement, which grew into political
processes through the Phoenix case. This created a platform for better
coordination of anarchist activities in the region. What were we doing in 2022?
---- Solidarity in the streets ---- At the beginning of the year, Vladimir
Putin's fascist army invaded Ukraine. The OAF expressed solidarity with the
victims of the war by picketing in front of Ostrava's town hall, and we then
signed up for consistent antimilitarism on our website. Over time, unfortunately,
some anarchists abandoned their anarchist positions and made the same mistake as
the leaders of the CNT in 1936 - for the sake of the "lesser" evil, they
"temporarily" put aside the revolutionary perspective and focused on the defeat
of one state-forming structure at the cost of cooperation with another
state-forming structure. Needless to say, it turned out to be a tragedy.
Fortunately, these tendencies are rather in the minority within the International
of Anarchist Federations, and we believe that the repression of Ukrainian
anarchists by the Ukrainian government will eventually open the eyes of some
anarchists. The OAF respects the often difficult decisions of our Ukrainian
comrades and comrades who, under the pressure of the situation, are subject to
compromises, but this is not a reason to celebrate these steps. By purchasing
solidarity T-shirts, we supported anti-war saboteurs and deserters. The Ostrava
group FNB also engaged in anti-war activities, which organized the Carrots
instead of War event for war refugees in March.
In July we took part in the traditional Ostrava Pride, in October OAF pasted
leaflets in the streets inviting the anarchist block of the Workers' Initiative
as part of a trade union demonstration in Prague. At the same time, a Climate
Camp organized by the collective Limity jsme we was taking place in the
surroundings of Ostrava, which culminated in a march and occupation of the
Ostrava coking plant. OAF actively supported Klimakemp. In November, we took part
in a protest rally in front of the Polish consulate in Ostrava and the subsequent
march. The event was planned on a day when neo-Nazis traditionally march
alongside conservatives in Poland to celebrate Independence Day. In December, a
long-time member left our ranks forever after serious health problems, for whom
local activists organized a memorial concert.
Publication activities and theory
During the year, we actively reported mainly on anti-war sabotage in Russia and
Ukraine. However, we also noticed other events in the world - we reported on the
events in Lebanon, when people began to rob banks in response to the fact that
their accounts were frozen, and we also drew attention to the newly created
archive of anarchist stickers. In August, we commemorated the anniversary of the
anarchist and educator Paul Robin. In May, we published a polemical text that was
aimed inside the movement and tried to name the reasons why anarchism in the
Czech Republic remains on the political sidelines.
What we need?
Do you want to join local anarchist groups and don't know how? There are many
ways to get involved. From translating anarchist articles, organizing discussions
and reporting events to initiating own community projects and helping exploited
workers.
