On Sushi Bambú business group, dedicated to the hospitality industry, with a restaurant in Aranjuez, fired a worker, a member of the union, on October 11, 2021. The reason for the dismissal: disciplinary reasons, which translated means: dismissing with false accusations, to repress any attempt to claim minimum rights at work. The main and only reason for the dismissal was not being docile and submissive to eternal hours, without breaks or the corresponding permits and all this through contracts that recognized a category, but the work performed corresponded to another, higher category. ---- The worker, faced with the need for income, had to endure working conditions that had nothing to do with what was included in the contract. The days were lengthened until the last customer left, the cash was made and the place was clean and ready for the next day, day after day, accumulating overtime that, of course, was not quoted or charged and resting below of what is legally regulated. This situation of physical and mental exhaustion led the worker to suffer from anxiety problems that made it impossible for her to carry out the work, leading to a situation of medical leave. In this situation, the worker decided that her health came first and to recover it, not only medical treatment was necessary, but also the claim of her rights at work, rest adequately and perform only the jobs for which she had been hired. The colleague wrote a letter in which she claimed all the rights not fulfilled by the company, for when she returned to work.

The company considered an intolerable challenge to claim rights and decided to dismiss the worker through an a la carte disciplinary dismissal, never better said: a menu of false accusations of labor breaches that led to sanctioning the worker with her dismissal.

The trade union and judicial channels were therefore initiated to fight against her dismissal, seeking the reinstatement of the compañera. The fight also takes place in the street, with pickets at the Aranjuez restaurant and at other establishments belonging to the same group in Pinto and Valdemoro.

In the first picket, held in the restaurant where the compañera worked, the businessman appeared in a defiant tone, insulting and confronting the compañeros and compañeras who were there. We are seeing these manifestations of verbal violence and provocation with increasing frequency, and in the hospitality sector this fact is especially serious, reflecting the enormous precariousness and lack of organization of the workers in the sector, which makes that the labor regulations of the sector be nothing more than a dead letter, and the orders of the businessmen and businesswomen be law.


In another of the pickets carried out in a restaurant, owned by the same businessman, but in another locality, we find that the violence and threats did not come from the businessman, but from a group of young Nazis, who resorted to the threat of violence and the insults, to make the picket desist from their action, without success.

We see how we are approaching an increasingly dangerous and conflictive scenario, in which the rise of the extreme right, encouraged by the institutions and the media, is bearing fruit.

The organization of the working class and its awareness is more and more urgent, and time is running against us.

Despite everything, we continue to have, in the hotel industry and in all areas, a menu with a single dish: workers' struggle.
