(en) Czech, AFED: Floods in Pakistan - Anarchist Solidarity: A call to help the flood-ravaged country (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Sat, 10 Sep 2022 10:29:40 +0300

As a result of global warming, Pakistan is literally drowning under water: half of the country of 220 million people is under water due to melting glaciers and a completely crazy monsoon. In the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan and Punjab, rivers turned into mud monsters that swept away everything in their path - buildings, bridges, fields, men and women who could not escape in time. More than a thousand people have died since June. Millions lost everything. Fields are scorched and crops destroyed, raising fears of a possible famine. The risk of epidemics is also very high. ---- Although these floods are the worst that Pakistan has experienced in the last thirty years, the monsoon is part of a seasonal cycle in South Asia and its recurrence should lead governments to develop effective prevention policies, which are even more urgent due to the deepening of global warming.

Among other things, the inaction of politicians led to this disaster. While corrupt politicians argue among themselves who will be in power, the population suffers and dies. Instead of sending aid to the population, the government came up with nothing better than to send in the army, which angered the population, who would rather receive food and means of survival.

Faced with the fact that the state is failing them, the people will only be able to rely on themselves to face this cataclysm.

Therefore, we are forwarding a call for solidarity from a group of Pakistani anarchists from the Workers Solidarity Federation (WSF) who are trying to organize solidarity aid within their modest means. They have already organized food distribution networks in the places where they operate. Now they are trying to organize health centers.

We reported on this organization last year in connection with providing aid to Afghan anarchists immediately after foreign troops left Afghanistan and left it in the hands of the Taliban.

If you want to support mutual aid networks in flood-ravaged Pakistan, you can donate through the paypal platform of WSF Anarchists:

Solidarity is our strength!
