(en) Spaine, Press release: CGT announces a mobilization campaign against multinationals that repress and punish combative trade unionism (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Fri, 9 Sep 2022 10:14:17 +0300

The anarcho-syndicalist organization assures that OPEL has fired a worker for exercising his right to union action for more than 25 years and refuses to dialogue to seek an alternative solution to the dismissal ---- CGT presents a calendar of mobilizations that will begin next September 8 in Zaragoza, with calls in different cities of the Spanish State ---- The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) has issued a statement, after holding a press conference by the colleague fired in July, in which he explains the circumstances of the dismissal of César Yagües, an OPEL worker and union delegate with a labor and union career of more than 25 years in this multinational.
At the press conference, César Yagües (Sº General de CGT Aragón-La Rioja) and Miguel Fadrique (Sº General de CGT) agreed that the trade unionism that an organization like the CGT practices in the work centers where it is represented, is punished and persecuted for being a threat against the abuses of the bosses and their neoliberal policies.

The anarcho-syndicalists consider that the basis of the trade unionism practiced by the CGT is solidarity, mutual support and direct action, and for this reason the campaign of mobilizations that are planned for the following weeks will have the international support of the automotive sector, in which the anarchist organization has been participating for decades.

CGT considers that OPEL, a multinational that receives important public subsidies from the Spanish State, has taken advantage of the summer months to carry out the dismissal of Yagües. In this sense, the anarcho-syndicalist has an important work history of almost 30 years in OPEL, and more than 25 years as a CGT delegate in it. Miguel Fadrique recalled that César has been very active in OPEL denouncing aspects related to the precarious conditions of the workforce, cases of asbestos, abuse of overtime and the degradation of the working conditions of the company's workers.

For all these reasons, from CGT they consider that César's dismissal is a clear and direct attack on combative and class unionism, such as that carried out by the red and black organization and that it is one of its most important hallmarks. That is why the General Secretary, Miguel Fadrique, has admitted that he has no doubt that OPEL's only aim is to stop the union action of the CGT and that is why the organization will respond forcefully to achieve the reinstatement of Yagües and remember, once once again, to the large multinationals that the rights and freedoms of working people are achievements that they will not give up.
