(en) Italy, Gruppo Anarchico Germinal: We report this important initiative tomorrow 4 September at 3.00 pm in front of the CPR in Gradisca d'Isonzo. (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]
Fri, 9 Sep 2022 10:14:30 +0300
Another died at the CPR. ---- Give us the name, we want to get in, let's get them
out. ---- There is a need for a huge supportive presence on Sunday 4 September at
15:00 in front of the CPR in Gradisca. We ask for maximum dissemination and real
responsibility for everyone *. Faced with the indecent words of the guarantor,
faced with the inertia of the institutions following this umpteenth death, this
time we pretend to enter. We want to see that center of death with our own eyes.
We want to know, why no one else - guarantors, associations, institutions -
wanted to break that infamous wall. We demand the entry of a CITIZEN DELEGATION
IN THE CPR, and to do so we have to be many. The center is in revolt. The
detainees are clamoring for us to have parliamentarians and journalists. We
appeal to everyone to mobilize and be there. We demand that those walls collapse,
ceasing to produce discrimination, violence and death.
NO SILENCE AND OMERTY.
FREEDOM, HURRIYA, FREEDOM
In Gradisca we die: we know who it was
Two days ago, on 31 August 2022, a 28-year-old Pakistani whose name we do not
know killed himself in the Gradisca d'Isonzo CPR. He had entered an hour earlier.
He killed himself in the bedroom; his fellow inmates found him.
Voices from behind the wall
From behind the walls of the CPR we are shouted that the Pakistani boy "made the
rope" immediately after meeting with the Justice of the Peace of Gorizia who had
confirmed his stay in the center for three months. They ask us to say that he
killed himself in despair over that choice about his life. They tell us that he
was in the blue zone, where they take off their phones and where people who just
enter go. The detainees tell us that the operators of the center keep the boy's
name from them, despite their requests.
They tell us that many, after the hearings with the Justice of the Peace, feel
bad and others have tried to hang themselves, then saved by roommates. They say
that in those moments you feel very bad and lose your mind. They tell us that he
is worse than any prison and that psychiatric drugs are put in the food. They ask
that parliamentarians and journalists tell what really happens in the CPR and enter.
Who speaks to us tells us to fear for his safety for what he is telling us. He
tells us that he is exposing himself for everyone but that the military is
watching him. He gives us his name and his address because he fears for his life,
just for telling what is going on. And we know it well, we remember how it was
yesterday the serial deportations and the immediate seizure of the phones of all
the detainees who had testified on the night of Vakhtang's death.
Repression of solidarity (with gun pointed)
On the evening of September 1, some solidarity members passed in front of the CPR
to show solidarity with the inmates and to hear their voices about the Pakistani
boy's death. While they were there, a police car arrived, called by the CPR staff
suspicious of the presence of some people outside those walls.
From one of the steering wheels, a carabiniere came out and began to run, not
very quickly, pointing the gun at one of the supportive ones. People were
searched and cell phones confiscated momentarily. After some time, the people in
solidarity were taken to the barracks to be identified, where they received
validation of the twelve-hour detention. In the barracks, one of the people in
solidarity was forced to carry out a full search and to undress completely.
The existence of the CPR requires silence: the mere presence of someone in its
vicinity gives rise to suspicion and turns into detentions, searches and, as
happened to others in solidarity in 2019, away from the municipal area. The CPR
is institutionally a place whose existence must be ignored, even on the days when
it kills someone.
The violence of the pointed weapon has no justification: the disproportionate
police reaction in front of a white boy who was not committing any crime asks us
about the level of abuse to which people who do not have the protection of
citizenship. Abuses of power and institutional racist violence keep the CPR on
its feet every day.
The unworthy comment of the guarantor
Giovanna Corbatto, the Guarantor for the rights of inmates of the municipality of
Gradisca, comments on the Venetian Messaggero: «We do not know if and which
ghosts he brought with him, if his dramatic decision was planned or improvised,
if he had pathologies. Having spent only an hour at the CPR, I would be cautious
in citing the living conditions inside as the cause or contributing cause of such
an extreme act ".
The mechanism put in place by Corbatto is that of victim blaming: in front of a
boy who killed himself in a structure on the decency that she herself should
supervise, Corbatto refuses to acknowledge the institutional responsibilities and
literally gives blame the victim.
The CPR is a lethal space: it is an undeniable fact, confirmed by the succession
of deaths. Whoever dies in there, in whatever way he dies, is an institutional
death, that is, a state death.
Almost three years of a lethal place
In the Gradisca d'Isonzo concentration camp, too many people have already died.
07/12/2021: Ezzeddine Anani, a 41-year-old Moroccan man, commits suicide in the
cell where he was held in solitary confinement for Covid quarantine.
07/14/2020: Orgest Turia dies following an overdose and a roommate escapes the
same fate. While the prefect of Gorizia Marchesiello says that all is well, at
first the local press spreads the rumor of a new death by brawl, then the mayor
Tomasinsig and representatives of the police re-propose the infamous narrative of
toxic inmates and drug dealing without the knowledge of the jailers. In reality,
Turia is not a drug addict, he is a man of Albanian origins brought to the CPR
because he was found without a passport.
18/01/2020: Vakhtang Enukidze, a 38-year-old Georgian citizen, is killed,
according to witnesses, by the blows received by the armed guards of the
facility. Following his death, all witnesses are deported, their cell phones
confiscated, the family of Vakhtang Enukidze in Georgia is under severe pressure
not to take part in a criminal trial and, to date, no official autopsy results
have been communicated. on the body.
30/04/2014: Majid el Khodra dies in hospital in Trieste, after months in a coma,
after a fall from the roof of the then Cie di Gradisca, in August of the previous
year. His family members are denied the opportunity to see him for months. After
his death, the Cie closes, to reopen a few years later with the new name of Cpr.
The list of the names of the people who died inside the CPR reminds us that
"ghosts" are never killed: it is the laws, the institutions, the racist
representatives of the state. The list of names of dead people in the CPR tells
us that that place, which was wanted by all governments, cannot be reformed. It
calls us to mobilize because, if the CPR continues to exist, people will continue
to die inside it.
Migrant lives matter.
