(en) Germany, FDA-IFA: "Jin Jiyan Azadi! Defend Feminist Struggles Internationally!" That was the demonstration on March 8th in Freiburg by nigra. (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Several thousand people took to the streets in Freiburg on International
Feminist Day to protest against the global patriarchy. FLINTA* and their
allies loudly and cheerfully made it clear, despite all resistance, that
male dominance is deadly for people and the entire planet. ---- The
square in front of the old synagogue in Freiburg was packed. Thousands
of people sat and stood all the way up to the theater (unfortunately, I
couldn't find any other reports about the demonstration and the number
of participants), having answered the call to action. The focus of the
demonstration was to be on Kurdistan, Rojava, and Rojhilat. To kick
things off, various groups and individuals gave speeches about
Kurdistan, but also about several other topics (unfortunately, I didn't
understand all the names and speeches correctly because the background
noise was high and the sound system was sometimes too quiet. Any errors
that follow are mine. Apparently, you can read all of this on the
Instagram account of the demonstration alliance. Since I can't and don't
want to do that, you'll have to look it up yourselves.): The Freiburg
Women's Collective spoke about patriarchy and feminist struggles. The
Kurdish Women's Council of Freiburg emphasized how important the
revolution in Rojava is for feminism and the entire world. The speaker
from Students for Palestine left me a little perplexed, as I couldn't
quite follow her explanation of Israel's mass murder in Gaza: She spoke
as if a queer, idyllic collective had lived in Gaza before the war,
which had now been destroyed by the IDF's bombing campaign. Of course,
FLINTA* people were and are being killed in Gaza. But not because they
are FLINTA*, but because they live in Gaza. FLINTA* and other people who
don't fit Hamas's Islamo-fascist worldview were systematically oppressed
and murdered by Hamas before the war simply because they were FLINTA*,
gay men, and dissidents. A person from Afghanistan called for the women
of Afghanistan not to be forgotten. Two people spoke about the
completely underestimated women's disease endometriosis and demanded
that it be taken seriously and that solidarity be shown to those
affected. A person spoke about ME/CFS, which primarily affects women,
and how they are left to fend for themselves. Two people spoke on behalf
of Black Radicals and referred to the Black abolitionist Frederick
Douglass. Two people from Tadamun recited a poem about Gaza and the pain
of parents who have to recover their dead children from the rubble. A
person from ROSA - Rolling Safespace spoke about the particular
hardships that FLINTA* face while fleeing and how they can be supported.
Melanochist/Chronic Fever/Cruel Fever* Around 5:30 p.m., the
demonstration set off: It was the most militant, colorful, loudest, and
most upbeat demonstration I'd been to in a long time. I think many
others felt the same way: We were simply thrilled that so many people,
despite their differences, took to the streets together on this
important day, united by at least one demand: The patriarchy must be
destroyed! Everywhere.
Countless flags, banners, signs, chants, slogans, stickers, and a drum
group displayed a wide range of feminist perspectives, issues, and
demands. It was great fun to march along, and in the face of the global
downward spiral, it felt really good. At the Gerhard Graf Sports Hall on
Friedrichstrasse, the police briefly got upset: Activists had dared to
use the scaffolding-covered building for a banner drop and set off some
fireworks and a smoke bomb. There was no police violence involved. Haha,
just kidding. Of course, the cops resorted to violence in their attempt
to catch the activists and push back those showing solidarity. Typical
cop business.
Once the situation calmed down, the demonstration continued along
Rotteckring back to the Old Synagogue Square.
Unfortunately, I missed the end of the demonstration because the train
company wasn't willing to arrange a special train home for us. So we had
to follow the ridiculous train schedule and head towards the station.
