The upcoming period is full of uncertainties. Are we going, after the
electoral frenzy, soon followed by the Olympic frenzy, to fall back into
the routine of balloon demonstrations at the start of the school year
where activists go as if on a pilgrimage, because we do that every year?
---- We will call for a "third social round", we will hear that the
"back to school will be hot" and then, finally, the same speeches
repeated a hundred times, the same practices coming from above and above
ground and, in three years at best, we will call for yet another
roadblock vote, probably the last...
However, the coming period may bring a completely different future.
Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the streets, we said NO to
the far right, YES to unity and action. This political fever must not
subside once the electoral deadlines have passed. It is neither at the
Élysée, nor at Matignon and nor at the Assembly that we will obtain
satisfaction... we know the rest. Now we are organizing ourselves,
locally, in our places of work, study and living to make connections and
build alternatives. We talk, we argue sometimes, but above all we don't
give up. Politics is all of us, not elected officials! It is on the
ground and in the struggles that we will build solidarity, at the
grassroots.
We gave ourselves a little more time, but the urgency is still there. So
now we're going, we're getting organized! EDITORIAL UCL, July 9, 2024
