(en) Turkey, KARSLA: Not the Earthquake, the State Killed! (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Wed, 22 Mar 2023 07:27:05 +0200
On February 6, a major earthquake occurred in the lands we live in, affecting 11
cities. Not only the cities within the borders of the Turkish Republic, but also
many regions of Syria, especially Aleppo, Mare, Idlib and Cinderes, were affected
by the earthquake. In the first earthquake and the earthquakes that followed, we
witnessed that the state, not the earthquake, dragged people into despair and
killed people. ---- After the first moment of the earthquake, the connection
between the cities where the earthquake took place and other cities was broken.
While millions of people trying to reach their relatives have no real knowledge
of the destruction in cities and what is going on; earthquake survivors, on the
other hand, were searching for their relatives under the rubble for hours in the
cold without any knowledge of the outside, while hundreds of thousands of people
were waiting for them to be reached under the rubble. With the news of the
earthquake, many unions, parties, organizations gathered solidarity; Volunteers,
construction workers, miners began to go to the region. Meanwhile, the question
"Where is the State?" was answered within 24 hours. The state was bombing the Tel
Rifat region of Rojava, which was affected by the earthquake.
The policy of the state after the earthquake carried the fact that it was a state
again. While people were waiting under the rubble for days, there was no trace of
the state, its institutions, AFAD, and Kizilay. Against the state officials who
appeared on the television screens and said that they are everywhere, people were
calling for help by saying that help did not come through social media. The
state's response to this was to try to hide their lies by blocking Twitter, which
was an important source of communication for people at that time. By declaring a
state of emergency in 10 provinces right after, he prepared the ground for his
attacks against solidarity.
While trying to build solidarities in a great chaos, the fascist wings of the
state started attacks against immigrants and tried to draw attention to the
immigrants by drawing attention from the state responsible for this wreckage.
While the wounds inflicted on the people were waiting to be healed, actual
attacks against other peoples who already had wounds started. While fascist
groups attacked immigrants in earthquake areas, the state law enforcement
officers tortured immigrants they claimed to be looters and killed many people.
From the first day, the people tried to heal their wounds with their own
solidarity. Miners worked to save people from the wreckage at the cost of their
lives, while AFAD used the people that miners pulled out from under the rubble to
serve its own media after they came out. The people, who were struggling with the
economic crisis before the earthquake, mobilized to send supplies to the
earthquake area with the last money in their pockets. Days later, the donation
show of the bosses was shown on the state media channels. The state, on the other
hand, came up with investment supports for the bosses who made a show with the
wealth they stole from the public. While people were trying to make their voices
heard, the media organs of the system blocked the voice of the people who
demanded accountability at every opportunity. While the people living on the
street in the cold needed tents, Kizilay sold tents to the public in exchange for
the money collected from the people in pursuit of profit. While there were still
people under the rubble, they entered the wreckage with construction equipment
and killed the living, and did not even allow us to reach our dead. In order for
the survivors not to die of hunger and cold, they confiscated some of the
solidarity trucks that were intended to be sent, and they let others go by
hanging their own posters.
Among all this organized evil, the people's concern was to live and let live.
Everyone said that we will keep the people killed and left to die by the state,
with solidarity. After the disasters, solidarity coordinations were established
in many regions to share the pain experienced by people beyond just physical
solidarity. The state, which made its presence felt with its attacks against the
people, revolutionaries, immigrants and the oppressed since the beginning of the
earthquake, emerged once again by appointing trustees to the solidarity zones
established during the first month of the earthquake and trying to evacuate them
by force by the soldiers.
We know that the earthquake is a fact of these lands, but this fact that killed
tens of thousands of people was not. It is the system that kills people, builds
buildings that leave them under the rubble for days, approves the construction of
those buildings, and prevents the solidarity that will reach the people who are
under the rubble after the buildings are demolished.
Let's list the undeniable facts that were revealed with the earthquake.
As mentioned, the state is not an organization that exists to meet the needs of
the people and organize life. All its institutions and organizations are
organized to exploit the oppressed and to feed on their labor, existence and life.
To fall on a few contractors, a few bureaucratic persons or institutions; All
these murderers who have a share in this massacre, which is tried to be forgotten
with the election debates, will sooner or later give an account.
As we have done since the first day of the earthquake, to mobilize all our
organizational activities to organize the needs and lives of the people of the
region who were affected by the state, not the earthquake; and we will continue
to sharpen our anger in order to hold accountable one by one from those who made
us experience this massacre.
