(en) Germany, Die Platform: Participation in the Global Climate Strike - A Brief Report (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Mon, 20 Mar 2023 09:34:46 +0200

For Friday, March 3rd, 2023, Fridays For Future called for a global climate strike again. As in numerous places around the world and in 250 cities in Germany alone, around 400 people took to the streets in Trier for climate and environmental justice. Some members of the local group of the Trier platform also took part, supported the preparations and took part in the demonstration. ---- In the morning, activists were at the rally of the striking bus drivers to network for future cooperation. The demo train itself started at midday from the Domfreihof and from there moved through the city center, over the Alleenring past the Porta and back again. In glorious weather, it was possible to loudly draw attention to the demands of the groups and individuals involved. The platform participated with many comrades and friends in an anti-capitalist and internationalist block, for which it was particularly important to emphasize that it should not just be about reminding those in government to comply with climate goals. We believe that climate justice and averting global catastrophe can only be achieved through systemic issues. Only if we overcome the system that leads to destruction, oppression and exploitation can there be a future in a world worth living in for all people.

As a platform, we represent an intersectional approach, which means we are convinced that the various social struggles can only be conceived and waged together. In order to achieve climate justice, we must also act consistently against capitalism, patriarchy and (neo)colonialism. Capitalism without exploitation is unimaginable, neither the exploitation of our livelihoods nor the oppression of FLINTA* and BIPoC* can ever be completely overcome in this system. Environmental justice also means freedom, equality and solidarity with all people.

Accordingly, many groups with different focal points took part. Especially in the speeches at the end of the march, it became clear once again how apparently different fights belong together. Whether the struggle of the people in Rojava and the surrounding earthquake regions against oppression and patriarchy or the profit that the rulers draw from the destructive status quo in Germany, it is evident everywhere that the struggle for a better world and a sustainable life is on all fronts must be guided.

The fight goes on! - In Trier and everywhere!
