(en) Slovakia, Priama akcia MAP: Impressions from the event of 100 years of the International Workers' Association (MAP) in Bratislava (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Date Sun, 19 Mar 2023 07:57:55 +0200

It was not easy to organize an event with international participation and completely new outputs (presentation, exhibition), but our impressions are mostly positive. To a large extent, this is because discussions and planning in open meetings have involved other people in the preparations. ---- Promotion in the streets and on the Internet, interpretation, moderation, graphic and physical preparation of the exhibition and posters, decoration of the premises, accommodation for delegations, production of badges, vegan goodies - most of these things were provided by people outside our union. It was great to see such self-initiative and mutual help. We thank you!
Although we know quite a lot about the history and present of MAP, the discussions were enriching, which was also helped by interesting questions from the audience. Our thanks go to the delegations from Austria, Poland, Ireland and the United Kingdom who spoke, for example, about how they came to the ideas of anarcho-syndicalism and why they make practical sense in their lives. The topic of membership and the strengths and weaknesses of individual unions were discussed, as well as the changes that have occurred in MAP in recent years, but also the situation of women and organizing with migrant workers.

We have a similar program planned for April 1 in Košice (FB event). We will meet again with the general secretary of MAP from Poland and we will have new delegations from the United Kingdom (Solidarity Federation) and Austria (Vienna Workers' Union) as guests.
