A few days ago, the biggest railway tragedy in the country so far unfolded in Tempe, a result of the sale of public property under the pretext of a crisis. The looting that has been going on continuously since 2010 has resulted in 57 dead and many dozens injured, the vast majority of them young men and women in their 20s and 30s, victims of the dominant ideology according to which the only thing that needs to be protected like the apple of an eye is the capitalist profit. ---- Responsibility lies with all the governments that keep the OSE downgraded over time, preparing the ground for its sale. All those who signed the obligation to privatize OSE as a memorandum obligation in 2010 are responsible. Christos Spirtzis of SYRIZA who sold OSE to Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane S.p.A. in 2017 is nominally responsible. instead of the ridiculous amount of 45 million euros, at the same time that the Greek state assumed the responsibility of subsidizing it with 50 million euros a year to run specific routes. This vagabond then justified the sale by saying that "we sold TRAINOSE so that the Greek people don't have to pay a memorandum and a half".

The tragedy in Tempe is not an accident that no one expected. A few hours before the head-on collision between the commercial train and the passenger train, an electrification cable snapped and fell on a train carrying 450 passengers. Such accidents and breakdowns are a daily occurrence in recent years. All this while the government and the media often celebrate the supposed upgrades of the railway network and the supposedly modern trains with which the OSE is equipped. However, a report by Investigate Europe entitled "'All I can say is good luck': How Swiss scrapped trains are returning to Greece" revealed on 18 February 2022 that the second-hand ETR 470 trains advertised as an upgrade of of Greek railways are in fact extremely problematic and dangerous, acquiring the nickname "train of damage" 20 years ago in Switzerland, from which they were withdrawn in a bad way. Logically, we conclude that the aforementioned reports had more to do with paid commercials than journalism.

Railway workers have repeatedly complained through their trade unions about safety deficiencies. This last announcement on February 7, 2023 where DESK Railways states: "We will not wait for the accident to come, to see them shed crocodile tears making findings". At the same time Hatzidakis was celebrating that TRAINOSE became profitable and the Minister of Transport K. Karamanlis was saying on February 20 that "we are not playing with the safety of passengers on trains". We saw it.

The crocodile tears of politicians and company executives, the slogans of "national tragedy" and the attribution of blame to "human errors" should not mislead us. The workers had repeatedly referred to the security gaps and the need for maintenance and upgrading of the network, they had warned in all tones that the accident was coming. They are the ones who struggle every day to get the job done and ensure the integrity of the crew and passengers with meager means. The minimum that needs to be done today is the cancellation of the sale of the OSE and the substantial upgrading of the railway network based on safety and the perception of transport as a public good that cannot operate on the basis of profit. But that's not enough. We must act collectively and organized to put an end to the absurdity called state and capitalism, to anti-socialism and the inhumanity of power.

The immediate and angry social reaction that existed from the first moment the incident became known, shows that the social base perceived it directly, not as a simple "accident", but as the essence of the state and capital, as the essence of the perception that wants society to be organized around the value axis "profits over lives". Thus, this tragedy became the point where the daily experience of the ever more extensive and intensifying devaluation of our living conditions (cuts in wages and pensions, unemployment, punctuality, privatization, first home auctions, repression) and ultimately, of value itself of human life. This is the thread that directly connects the dead immigrants at the border and the dead of the pandemic due to the broken hospitals, the dead of the daily labor accidents in the workplaces and the dead on the train tracks of Tempe. The massive, dynamic and confrontational gatherings, protests and demonstrations after the mass state murder in Tempe, prove that the social base will no longer sit idly by and get used to death more and more every day, that in doing so they will put a brake on brutality of power.

We know that the fight we have to fight is multifaceted and it is not going to be easy. In the face of poverty and destitution, precision, impoverishment, the working middle ages and unemployment, we must organize class solidarity, reorganize the collective formations of the working class, put forward the interests and needs of our class and set the collective claim us. To strengthen the internationalist, class solidarity among the oppressed and exploited everywhere, in order to fight the poison of fascism and racism, but also to erect dykes against the imperialist rivalries and the war that result in hundreds of deaths of our class. Working, unemployed, retired, excluded, native and immigrant together, we must raise our heads together, organize, fight together, and attack the state, capital and its lackeys. From today's cry of rage for our dead in Tempe, from our today's demands that are vital for survival and the partial improvement of our working and living conditions, to the revolutionary overthrow of capitalism and the radical reorganization of social life. Because our struggle to make our lives count today is not disconnected from the struggle to make our lives worth living as a whole. Because a life that will be governed by freedom, equality, common property, solidarity and mutual aid, that will be organized directly democratically is possible, but it is only possible if we fight for it.
