(en) [Brazil] anarchist cab - 8M: Strong women against the politics of hunger and death! (ca, de, it, pt)[machine translation]

Date Sun, 13 Mar 2022 09:30:53 +0200

The pandemic period has made women's lives much more difficult. These two years of a complicated situation caused by COVID-19 and its response paved the way for the intensification of our exploitation, the precariousness of life and the intensification of violence against women. Taking advantage of the chaos generated by the plague, those above also put into practice a policy of extermination of rights, preventing the advancement of essential agendas for women. ---- The most profound impact is felt at the table: we are living in a situation of widespread misery, the word famine has returned to our mouths when the cost of food, gas and everything more basic became much more expensive. Food ended up in the fridge of many homes, unemployment intensified and the few jobs that remained pay poorly and have few guarantees - many do not bring essential rights such as the minimum wage, sick leave, vacations and the 13th salary. When hunger hits people so drastically, it hits women's lives directly. Many households are maintained by women, who are often the sole breadwinners for the children. The same agribusiness that exports soy, also encouraged with public money, while we suffer the rise in food prices, poisons our health and breast milk with the use of pesticides. And this shows us how much this scenario of misery is produced by the alliance between the State and capitalism. Thus, we are hit triple by a policy of hunger and death and the withdrawal of rights.

When unemployment hits women harder, especially when one in three black women is unemployed, economic dependence and along with it psychological, moral, sexual and physical aggression become part of the daily lives of many. In addition, with all the illness, the work of caring was left for women. More than half of the women in our territory started to take care of other people, accumulating the work of providing and paying the bills, taking care of the house and the sick. Condemned to go out to work without being able to protect themselves from the virus and stay at home the rest of the time to avoid the chance of infection, many female companions faced violence and femicide.

The underreporting of these cases has always been high and has worsened even more with the attacks and the progressive dismantling of the Unified Health System - SUS and the Unified Social Assistance System - SUAS, in addition to the difficulty of accessing the complaint and protective measures, given the stoppage, unpreparedness and ineffectiveness of care in specialized police stations and legal and support institutions. With this, we mourn four murders of women every day in 2021, committed by their own husbands or ex-husbands, boyfriends, fiancés, keeping Brazil in the 5th position in the world in femicide rate.

In this way, the difficulties that we women - black, indigenous and peripheral - face in order to live have increased at an alarming rate. Occupied and devastated by these attacks, it was necessary to mobilize to survive, to build networks of solidarity, mutual support and self-defense of our bodies and our communities. Our advances in many other areas have stagnated, such as the fight for sex education; expansion of access to contraceptive methods and pregnancy abortion; means of protection against domestic and patriarchal violence; and ensuring decent work and pay for women. All these urgent struggles to secure our lives.

resist attacks
This March 8 announces the beginning of a difficult and fundamental year for the struggle of those from below. A year in which political tensions intensify and threats of ever-deepening attacks from capitalists and the conservative and proto-fascist right, who wish to further destroy the rights of working women.

For this year, our answer is to plant our feet more and more in the territory and social spaces of the oppressed classes. It means taking responsibility for our liberation, and for building and fighting for guidelines that expand our rights. Our path is self-organization, shoulder to shoulder, and the rebellion of those who are already looking today to build a new world with socialism and freedom, and therefore necessarily feminist, anti-racist and anti-capitalist.
