(en) alas barricadas: International communiqué of the Global May Day (where CGT participates) (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Globally, we wage workers are in competition to support the production of additional value. Regardless of where we live, our gender/sex, nationality, we are intertwined in the same struggle, whether we like it or not. Budget cuts in social services, outsourcing, falling wages, privatization, rising cost of living and tuition fees, and the destruction of natural resources are just some of the symptoms of the global economic system. A system that is based on exploitation and competition leads to the commercialization of all aspects of our lives. We suffer from increasing pressure to perform, separation, as well as alienation from our needs and from the people with whom we work and live. Whether in the workplace, university or, increasingly, even during childhood and youth.

The introduction of a Universal Basic Income at a global level can be a first emancipatory step towards overcoming salaried labor relations.

We don't just mean to interrupt; we seek to overcome.

This year we draw attention to the ecological crisis that we all face. A crisis caused by the incessant search for profit margins by capitalist interests. A crisis that will provoke wars around the world, making the poorest of us suffer more and more soon. With the current modes of production and work practices controlled by the capitalist class, it is impossible to overcome this crisis. The global ecological crisis is a problem for the working class all over the world. There is no Earth 2.0. There is no reset option or escape plan. There is only the future. We have to decide, and it is in our hands as a working class, if that future will be somewhere where humans can live or not.

Given the transnational nature of the capitalist system, it is necessary for workers to connect globally.

By networking across borders, the global interconnections that shape our local conditions can be made visible. In addition, it opens up new potentialities and fields of action in the fight against exploitation and precarious working and living conditions. The bargaining power of workers would be greatly increased if we joined forces within the same value-added chain.

Especially in times of nationalism and racism, we seek common struggle and resist being pitted against each other.

For a better life for all, across all borders!
