(en) France, UCL - UCL press release, No to massacre, no to apartheid, freedom for Palestine ! (ca, de, it, fr, pt)[machine translation]

Date Mon, 17 May 2021 12:49:01 +0300

Since May 6, the Israeli state has launched a military offensive to silence the anger in East Jerusalem and Gaza. It is much more than yet another repetition of asymmetric hostilities (homemade rockets against air strikes): it is a popular uprising, including Palestinians and Palestinians with Israeli nationality, which challenges apartheid and colonial domination. ---- The current repressive escalation began with the Israeli government's desire to silence the mobilization of residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem. The latter demonstrated massively, alongside their Israeli supporters, against the expulsion of several Palestinian families in order to relocate settlers in their place.

The police, the army and the militias of the extreme right, as always, violently repressed the demonstrators until on the esplanade of the Mosques, leaving dozens of wounded.

Against a new carnage in Gaza
From the Gaza Strip, Hamas then fired hundreds of homemade rockets at Israel. The IDF responded as usual, with bombings ten times more deadly on the Gaza Strip. Are we on the eve of a new campaign to crush Gaza under the bombs, as in 2009 (more than 1,300 Palestinian deaths against less than fifteen Israelis) and in 2014 (between 700 and 2,300 Palestinian deaths, against 66? Israelis) ?

Netanyahu's government is solely responsible for this new murderous episode. It is the consequence of a colonial policy, apartheid and the denial of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people. A policy led by an extreme right-wing government, allied to the extreme right, and proving the most fanatical settlers right.

In France, the president of the AFPS in police custody !
In France, solidarity quickly manifested itself, despite the repression. On May 12, a support rally was called in Paris, at Les Invalides, among others by the Association France Palestine Solidarité (AFPS). Shortly before, the Paris police headquarters banned it ! On the spot, a few hundred people gathered all the same, before being dispersed and fined by the police.

A little later in the day, Bertrand Heilbronn, president of the AFPS, was taken into custody, just as he was just leaving, with a delegation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he had denounced the dramatic situation in Palestine.

The Libertarian Communist Union reaffirms its support for the Palestinian resistance and calls for mass participation in the solidarity initiatives being organized everywhere in France.
