(en) Czech, AFED: A call for international solidarity with the Civil Disobedience Movement inMyanmar

Date Mon, 10 May 2021 10:13:46 +0300

Food not Bombs - Myanmar, together with two Burmese trade unions, issued a call for international solidarity before May Day. ---- Friends across emancipation groups around the world! ---- Since February, we, a local organization in Myanmar, have been taking to the streets to resist the military junta, which has returned to authoritarian power through a coup d'état last November. ---- The coup has serious consequences for us, including the abolition of the freedoms achieved in the last few years and decades. ---- From the beginning, we mobilized within factories and formed the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) across the country. ---- We are fighting for the abolition of the military government and its fascist regime, as well as for a new constitution that would ensure full federal democracy. All political prisoners must be released immediately!

Workers face various forms of repression. Not only do the military shoot at us in the streets, but factory bosses often work with the military and call on it to take action against protests and strikes. Opposition to the regime has claimed at least 738 lives so far.

We are sad and upset about this.

We provide support to workers who have lost their jobs due to their participation in the pro-democracy movement. These include pregnant factory workers and single-parent families, but also workers who participate in the CDM.

Friends, let's increase the pressure on the military junta at all levels together!

We suggest that May 1 be also used as an event day to express solidarity with the CDM around the world.

Here are some examples of how to get involved:

* Press on companies cooperating with the military junta, such as Deutsche Post DHL Group (source: justiceformyanmar.org ), Total SE (source: asianews.it ) or Sinotruk / MAN (source: justiceformyanmar.org ).

* Support workers who participate in the CDM movement with financial donations. An overview of the various channels can be found at isupportmyanmar.com .

* If you would like to support Food not Bombs - Myanmar's mutual assistance efforts, please contact asia[a]icl-cit.org for more information.

* Put pressure on international clothing brands to ensure that everyone working in their supply factories is guaranteed the right to take unpaid leave without the threat of redundancy. Find out how international brands such as Zara, H&M, Adidas, OBS, Mango and Sioen are currently behaving in Myanmar.

* Push the Singapore government! "The rich island nation is Myanmar's largest foreign investor, surpassing even China by more than $ 24 billion in 2019 through lucrative real estate projects, banking, shipping, exports and construction, as well as arms sales." (Source: vice.com ) Temasek Holdings, a government holding company with more than $ 230 billion in capital, owns shares in many corporations, such as Singapore Airlines (56%). The pressure on Singapore Airlines could thus also be a pressure on the Singapore government.

* Support the initiative of a united government. "Opponents of the Myanmar junta have established a government of national unity, including deposed members of parliament, protest leaders and ethnic minorities, saying their goal is to end the military junta and restore democracy." (Source: reuters.com )

Three fingers raised - for freedom, for unity, for solidarity!

The above-mentioned call was heard, for example, by anarcho-syndicalists from Hamburg. The local teams of the FAU and IWW groups arrived at the Deutsche Post DHL distribution center on May 1. This company cooperates with the junta in Myanmar (more information HERE ). https://www.justiceformyanmar.org/stories/the-juntas-courier
