(en) Greece, APO, Land & Freedom: [Thessaloniki] Coordinating decision of general assemblies[machine translation]

Date Sun, 9 May 2021 09:34:21 +0300

After three months of constant mobilizations, occupations and actions against the reactionary law of Kerameos-Chrysochoidis (law 4777), the intensified struggle of the students took on massive characteristics and with its escalation on April 15, prevented the forthcoming implementation of the law. With the continuous efforts of re-appropriation of the schools that have been closed for a year now and with their transformation into hotbeds of struggle through squatting, but also with the two squatting of the rectory, the student movement managed to achieve its goal and turn the occupied plain into a plan. to deploy a police force at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the second fortnight of April.

With the escalation of the struggle on April 15, the date of the "appointment" given by Chrysochoidis for the entry of the police forces in the universities, we found 7000 people on the streets with many social groups showing their support in the struggle of the students. Through our self-organization and militancy, we have succeeded in re-appropriating universities as social spaces, reviving schools with events, counterattacks and actions determined according to our social needs and giving a strong message to the government and rectors that not only repression does not will stop us, not only do we fight until this bill is repealed, but we will not stop until we impose the conditions under which we live and study.

We therefore call on all students to continue to organize in their clubs through the general assemblies, to support the occupations and actions of their faculties and to join us in the streets, so that the massive features of our fight after Easter.

We also understand the need to link our struggle with high school students, as they are also affected by law 4777. More specifically, in the context of the educational restructuring promoted by the bill, with the minimum admission base, in combination with the existing Theme Bank and the changes in the computer science in the Panhellenic exams, 1/5 of the University admissions are excluded. This aspect of the bill that targets high school students further reinforces the already existing class barriers in education. Those students who do not make it to the University will be forced to either turn to the private college market (if and when they can afford it) or go to a technical school or go directly from school to the job market creating thus a flexible, cheap and exploitable workforce. That is why we call on all the students of the country to join our struggle for the overthrow of law 4777, holding general assemblies, occupying their schools and going down to all the educational mobilizations after Easter.

These class barriers that enter the educational process aim to create a flexible, cheap and exploitable workforce, in a Greece whose working environment is already characterized by insecurity and the violation of every labor right.

This working environment, in which we will be (or are already some of us) as future employees, is getting worse with the new law that will be voted in Parliament in the near future, according to its requirements State and Capital. At a time when the country is in a health crisis, the government of New Democracy refuses to shield the NSS, to protect the population from the coronavirus and leaves their employees both health and financially unprotected. Now, a year after the successive and ineffective lockdowns, the economy is opening up with an even greater flexibility of working conditions, in order to avoid the impending economic crisis. The main axes of this anti-labor bill include: the abolition of the 8 o'clock, with the legislation of 10 hours, the increase of legal overtime to 150 for all sectors and the possibility of arranging working time according to the needs of the company, the liberalization / generalization of individual employment contracts and neoliberal negotiations, the legislation and consolidation teleworking and platform work (gig economy). This anti-labor bill also attacks the right to strike and the trade union and self-organization of workers in general, as it increases the security staff, thus ensuring the operation of companies even in the event of a strike and recognizing union meetings as legal voting by 50% of one / one of their registered members (law brought by SYRIZA).

In the face of this all-out attack that both we and the workers receive, we recognize that student struggles are linked to those of the labor movement but also to every wider social struggle.

That is why we call on all the workers, all the unions and all the mass organizations in the upcoming strikes.

DOWN LAW 4777 (KERAMEOS-Chrisochoïdis)
The April 15 was the start IN ALL MATCH to overturn!!
