(en) Czech, AFED: Anarchist Book Festival 2021 - A report from a popular anarchist enterprise [machine translation]

Date Mon, 28 Jun 2021 09:31:44 +0300

In recent years, the Anarchist Book Festival has become such a mecca for Czech anarchists, a place where new and older (not only) anarchist publications are available in one spot, but also a point of mutual meetings, discussions and the creation of new connections. After a one-year break due to the coronavirus crisis, we met, specifically on Sunday, June 20, 2021, in Holešovice, Prague. The outdoor space of the Cross club proved to be a suitable place for such an event. The large tent hosted stalls full of books and magazines, visitors had the opportunity to sit in the shade of trees and refresh themselves either at the outdoor bar of the club, or at the stands of Food not Bombs Prague or the Black Seeds team.. Here you could have iced Zapatista coffee or buy beans or ground coffee and support the collection to cover the costs associated with the planned visit of Zapatistas to the Czech Republic. A book freeshop was set up here, and those who were interested could try out what screen printing is in the Rolety39 workshop. All of this was played by older and newer revolutionary songs, and in the afternoon there was also live music, which was taken care of by Ctib and the band Don't pour beer for Jesus.

At the entrance, visitors were greeted by the banner "Anarchist Book Festival", which left no one in doubt, what is really happening here and why there are so many people in this place. They could take turns here during the festival, ie from ten in the morning to eight in the evening, maybe three hundred. Hard to estimate in such a time span.

Some met on the spot around nine in the morning to prepare tables, seating for visitors, equipment, etc. We were on the spot in advance and added a few hands to the joint work, so we could then prepare the stand of the Publishing House of the Anarchist Federation. We decorated it with black and red flags and graphic sheets - linocuts on the themes of anarchist posters from the Spanish Civil War. These graphics, which you can also buy in Prague's 39 Space or in Brno's Three Tails, were not only for sale as a benefit to our publishing house, but also served as a trailer for the newly published diary for 2022 , which was of great interest. Perhaps the new edition of Kropotkin's Anarchist Ethics was larger at the federation stand. Often visitors reached for the anarchist songbook A-song (unfortunately we had far fewer pieces at the stand than would be necessary) or for Anarchism for beginners . Everyone could then take away a catalog with the current offer of our publishing house or promotional stickers AF.

We shared the place with the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution in Rojava, which presented its first pamphlet, Abdullah Öcalan's Democratic Confederalism, and also duly christened it a bottle of sparkling wine, and the Anarchist Black Cross. Across the aisle, we sided with big distro Rolety39 that offered in ýrobky of revolutionary enclaves of Mexico, bags and T-shirts with prints, graphics, foreign language (especially English) books, which although can be ordered by e-shop Rolety39 , but not over , take the book in his hand and leaf through it... There was a historical association Zádruha, on whose table there were also editions of Kropotkin's works Prosperity for All or Anarchism, his philosophy and ideal. Collective Against Capital (KPK), Rubato and Broken Books, Kudla Werkstatt, Seventh Generation magazine , cultural fortnightly A2 , Underground publishing house Pravek or Ten Decade of Decadence had their stands here .

Neklid Publishing House mainly offered its new titles Twice the Glory of Anarchism , The Body as a Space of Anarchist Resistance and The Zapatistical Expedition for Life . At the same time, he presented these books in a block of presentations, which took place from half past one to three. The last story, that of the zapatista texts representing the idea of " Off r avy for life ", ended with a challenge to symbolically welcome the Zapatistas in Europe. Ten minutes later, together with the black-and-red banner and the banners "No one is illegal" and "Bienvenidos Zapatistas!", About 70 people took a joint photo, which was then sent to the Zapatistas. The crew of the ship Montaña (Hora) was just sailing to the Spanish port of Vigo, where she was greeted live by a crowd of supporters.

The eighth year of the anarchist book festival was really successful, even though the lecture part was almost omitted compared to previous years. In the end, even the unpleasantly hot weather did not have a negative effect on the great atmosphere. Whoever wanted could get a snow sprayer, and the fan at our booth turned out to be an absolutely great choice.
