(en) Coordenação Anarquista Brasileira - CAB: 125 years of the birth of Buenaventura Durruti

Date Tue, 20 Jul 2021 09:39:04 +0300

Fascism is not argued, it is destroyed!" One of the best known phrases of the revolutionary Buenaventura Durruti, a militant historic of Spanish anarchism; a figure of great simplicity, determination, brotherhood and ethics with the social struggle to build the People's Power, developed in the Spanish Revolution. ---- Today marks 125 years of the birth of Durruti, who until his death fought with all energies to build a new society, in which the oppressed classes could take for themselves the lands and the factories, and defeat fascism by same time when they built a new world. ---- In an interview in 1936, asked how they would rebuild Spanish territory, amid the ruins, if they won the war, Durruti replied:
ŽŽ Don't forget that workers are the only producers of wealth. It is us workers who make machines work in industries, those who extract coal and minerals from the mines, those who build cities... Why not we build and still in a better condition to replace what was destroyed? It's us, the workers who build the palaces and cities here in Spain and America and everywhere. We the workers can build others instead. And better! The ruins don't scare us. We know that we will not inherit anything but ruins, because the bourgeoisie will ruin the world in the last stage of its history. However, and I repeat it, we are not afraid of the ruins, because we take a new world in our hearts. This world is growing right now."
Durruti believed in the revolutionary popular force that, through direct action, would defeat fascism and also state and capitalism. The column that carried its name acted actively in that direction. Carl Einstein, who fought at his side, described the Column and fellow Buenaventura:
ŽŽ Column Durruti comprises workers, proletarians coming from factories and villages. Workers of the Catalan factories departed at war with Durruti, comrades of the province joined them. The farmers and small peasants abandoned their villages, tortured and disgraced by the fascists, and transposed the Ebre at night. The Durruti Column grew with the region she conquered and released. (...) The Column is the work of Comrade Durruti, who established his spirit and encouraged his freedom to be until the last beat of his heart."
In honor of the Memory, Fight, Rebellion and Organization of those and those who fell in the popular fight, against fascism, raising the flag of anarchism, may we follow the path of Durruti!
