(en) CNT - AIT. Against all odds. (ca, de, it, pt) [machine translation]

Date Sat, 13 Feb 2021 09:17:02 +0200

As part of the libertarian movement already knows, for several years the CNT-AIT, the National Labor Confederation, has faced a process of suffocation by an organization that calls itself anarcho-syndicalist and also calls itself the CNT. ---- Anarchist individuals and groups that feel they are alien to anarcho-syndicalism perceive this situation with suspicion, skepticism and even a certain irony, and they think that it is absolutely decadent and ridiculous that in the Spanish State there are "two CNTs" the result of a "split", that become irreconcilable and that, furthermore, are immersed in a "battle of acronyms" in which both struggle to display the historical acronyms, thus leaving aside the real social and political problems that anarchism and anarchism should face. anarcho-syndicalism.
We find ourselves in the need to deny this idea of a supposed battle of acronyms and explain what is happening within the anarcho-syndicalism in the Spanish State and internationally. But trying not to overwhelm those who read this statement, we have avoided talking carefully about all the abuses, dishonest uses of the agreements and the organic, outrages, corruption and aggressions that have been committed in recent years. We only wanted to talk about the central issues, without going into the details. We are aware that a work to make all these embarrassing and intolerable attitudes is pending on our part. Therefore, the intention of this text is not to immerse those who read it in a sea of data, dates and names, since there is a lot of written material that has been explaining from the beginning what is happening in more or less detail. A material that is also being recovered to make it more accessible to those who are interested. What is intended with this statement is to put the current anarchist movement in a situation and launch a few reflections on the matter so that, if it is deemed appropriate, all comrades can judge for themselves what is happening and take a position on it.

The CNT-AIT has always functioned in an assembly and horizontal manner, including in its structure of confederation of unions and as a section of the AIT. This means that the Local, Regional and National Committees, which are nothing more than groups of comrades who are in charge of coordinating activities at different levels, have no decision-making power beyond what the affiliates agree to. The decisions taken in the Confederation start directly from the base of the different unions, and thus the decisions are raised to the national level. To do this, all the members of the CNT-AIT have knowledge and can participate (or thus it is promoted and strengthened from the statutes themselves) in everything that happens at the confederal level. If these Committees were the decision-makers for the rest of the unions and activists,

Herein lies one of the main issues of the present sorry situation. The Confederal Committee and the secretariats of the CNT-AIT (when it was still "one"), unilaterally and behind the backs of the unions that formed the CNT-AIT, stopped paying the fees to the AIT for approximately two years, wasting and using that money for the purposes they saw fit. The people who made these decisions behind the back of the Confederacy considered the AIT little and its sections too insignificant to be worth belonging to. On the other hand, the CNT © (from this moment on we will name it that way, we will say why) begins to organize international conferences with other organizations, outside the AIT and with the intention of beginning to shape what would become the CIT (International Labor Confederation), a "new international", in our opinion, with little libertarian overtones. All this, as is logical, ended up causing his expulsion from the AIT.

But beyond these premeditated movements of the Confederal Committee of the CNT © and some committees and secretariats that cost the expulsion of the AIT, we see how a part of the militancy, due to ignorance or indifference, has allowed everything that this centralist attitude to happen. and authoritarian of the CNT © has unleashed. A militancy that has allowed itself to be drawn towards a new organizational approach focused more on aesthetics than on ethics. More in marketing than ideological. More towards the affiliation of "quotas" than of active militants. To get rid of everything that does not interest them to develop the "exponential growth plan of the organization." The CNT-AIT unions are what membership makes of them. For this very reason we anarcho-syndicalists seek militancy, the participation of the affiliates in the operation of the organization, in order to create the longed-for ties of mutual support and solidarity that are the basis of our fight against authority, but also against passivity and the delegation of our emancipation in any institution. We are an organization among equals where we workers need each other to improve our living conditions and make our way towards the libertarian horizon. That is the reason why we prefer an organization with active and conscious militancy and in constant training and reflection, to a unionism that prioritizes a massive affiliation (through telematic affiliations, for example) from which no transformative potential is expected, not even attendance at assemblies, Save your quota and your data to inflate numbers and make a profit. Thus, the fact of the existence of a leadership in the CNT © that makes decisions without having informed or consulted the militancy, is very illuminating to understand where an organization that claims to be anarcho-syndicalist leaves its members.

We have also seen how the idea grew within that CNT © that the more affiliation (not militancy) and quotas a union, federation or section of the International contributes to the organization, the more authority and decision-making power it must have when it comes to reach "agreements" (if they can be called that) with their companions from other localities or regions. It is not necessary to point out how damaging this logic is in an organization founded on solidarity, free agreement, and anti-authoritarian federalism. The results have already begun to be glimpsed: search for affiliation as a way to get votes (or direct purchase of votes by inflating affiliation with false quotes), and a centralism that gives all the decision-making power to large cities over small towns. This centralist authoritarianism has nothing to do with an anarchist federalism based on solidarity and the search for consensus. This is undoubtedly one of the issues that has led the CNT © to attack the AIT. We understand that an organization that claims to serve as the seed for a free and anarchic society cannot base its agreements on the submission of the will of its comrades in struggle. We do not seek to impose ourselves by voting, we seek to convey an opinion, a position, an agreement on an issue, trying to reach consensus. Outside of this intentional dynamic, any decision made by voting, without debate, without assignments and search for common areas, is shown to be conflictive, forced, and can cause irreparable damage, as in fact has happened.

And what is the result of all this? A fracture and a confrontation between two organizations that until then were one, the CNT-AIT. From the moment in which centralist and authoritarian dynamics and logics become the norm, every discussion and every discrepancy is resolved with expulsions on a scale that has never been seen before. The agreements, the statutes, our organization are enforced, all with the aim of silencing, forcing the defenselessness or directly expelling the unions and compas who were trying to face this alarming drift. A full-blown purge. Since the maneuvers of the Confederal Committee and its supporters began, at least 30 unions have left the CNT © or have been expelled. Those who remained in the CNT © and remained critical of the attitude of the Confederal Committee, they also ended up being expelled. Throughout this process, the CNT © has proven to be an organization that rejects dialogue with its comrades and that limits itself to counting the votes with which they will carry out their agreements.

Some of these unions, ashamed and radically opposed to the drift that the CNT © was taking, decided in 2015 to initiate a process of restructuring the CNT-AIT, which culminated in 2017 with the recognition of this organization as the section of the AIT in the Spanish State.

But in the plans of this unrecognizable CNT © there is no place for the existence of a CNT-AIT. Seeing that the commitment and affinity of anarcho-syndicalism towards the AIT had not only not disappeared, but was growing and consolidating, with the accessions of new unions and sections, that same 2017, the Permanent Secretariat of the Confederal Committee of the CNT ©, Enrique Hoz , once again without the agreement of the unions and behind the back of his organization, hires (at the expense of confederal funds) a lawyer from Seville in order to sue seven unions of the CNT-AIT (together with the Ateneo Libertario de Albacete) before the Social Courts of six different provinces. The accusation: "usurpation of acronyms and damage to public image." The provincial social courts declare themselves incompetent because they consider the 7 unions sued to have the same organizational structure at the state level. Not satisfied with the damage caused, in the second half of 2020, with a CNT-AIT that, far from disappearing, continues to grow after its restructuring, the CNT © once again makes use of the State justice to try to end the CNT-AIT, but this time it does so through the National Court. Under the same accusations, he demanded 50,000 euros of compensation from each union, adding to the seven previous ones more unions (some of which did not even exist when this broke out). And as if this were not enough, some unions are even accused of occupying a premises owned by the CNT ©,

It is its objective, to take over the little patrimony that the CNT-AIT still has, its premises, to be able to sell them and continue paying the fees and allowances of its union professionals, their cronyism, their corruption and all their shameful expenses (which also dealt with and partly they managed to hide).

Throughout this process of what many mistakenly understand as a battle of acronyms, greed and the lack of ethical and anarchist principles on the part of the CNT © caused some unions to end up disappearing and for good friends to abandon, trample and throw to the ground the enormous effort by many workers to lift the anarcho-syndicalist organization and culture. At the beginning of the communiqué we said that less than 10 years ago, there was only one CNT in the Spanish State and now, in 2021, we say that there is still only one legitimate CNT, the CNT-AIT. We will defend ourselves against these miserable attacks and we will not give away our premises, our documentary memory and our history. But we also want to say that our main heritage, our greatest wealth is our militancy, and that can never be snatched or destroyed. The Monarchies, or the Dictatorships, or the infiltrators, or the police assemblies have not been able, and neither will this unrecognizable organization. They have taken a path that leads them towards service unionism, towards an increasingly professionalized, centralist and vertical organization, moving away from the principles of anarchist federalism. It is not surprising that, under this centralist and hierarchical perspective so obsessed with image and marketing, the CNT © CNG has decided to register its logo, flag and acronyms, also trying to get a slice of it in court (hence the ©). It almost seems that we are facing a company instead of a supposedly anarcho-syndicalist organization. nor the police assemblies and neither will this unrecognizable organization. We fight and will continue to fight to defend ourselves, as we continue to work tirelessly to undermine power structures and build the society we desire. The time has come to break the silence, for the anarchist movement and anarcho-syndicalism in all regions of the world to learn about the situation of the CNT attached to the AIT. The time has come for everyone, including the unions and the militants that today are part of the CNT ©, to take sides and put aside indifference.

In defense of anarcho-syndicalism, internationalism and the anarchist struggle!

In defense of the CNT-AIT!
