(en) France, UCL - UCL Tract, February 4: on strike and in the street ! (ca, de, it, fr, pt)[machine translation]

Date Wed, 10 Feb 2021 09:18:24 +0200

The fear of unemployment weighs on millions of employees. Confinement and curfews complicate the mobilization. But struggles exist and a general response from our camp is needed. For that, we need to be tenacious, on the offensive and realistic. ---- For 1 year, with the help of the State, the employers have taken advantage of the health context: blackmail for employment, degraded working conditions, repression of those who resist. Work on weekends, cutbacks of holidays, overtime, wage freeze ... The Covid has a good back to do more work and at a lower cost. And if you're not happy, don't complain because elsewhere we lay off! Bridgestone, Nokia, Renault, Cargill, Auchan, Michelin... to name only the large groups which are taking advantage of the situation to lay off at a lower cost. Not to mention the small and medium-sized businesses that are sinking due to the economic crisis. Everywhere, it is the employees who are paying the price. However, when these same companies reaped the dough, the employees did not see the color. We cannot wait for the end of the pandemic and be silently mowed. We must resume the path of struggles.

There are struggles !

Many defend themselves. EDF employees are fighting massively against the Hercule project which aims to dismantle their business. Workers at the Total Grandpuits refinery have been on strike for four weeks against the loss of 700 jobs. At the Tui tour operator, employees are contesting 600 layoffs. In other companies strikes are victorious on wages (Onet) or Covid bonuses. These struggles must be made visible and supported. How ? By strengthening our unions and our solidarity.

Prepare for the offensive

But supporting each other is not enough. We must prepare a powerful popular mobilization, in the street, in companies and places of study. Even stronger than those on pensions. There was no lack of uprisings around the world in 2020. Lately, it is in India and Tunisia that the popular classes are shaking up the power and the bosses. In France, the social crisis will worsen in the coming months. The reactions it will provoke must unite. We must put an end to this system which destroys and impoverishes us. Let's organize, debate, build mobilizations from the base. Union and actions, to go on the offensive !
