(en) Czech, AFED: Review of another issue of an anarchist magazine from Slovakia [Traduction automatique]

Date Mon, 9 Aug 2021 10:50:36 +0300

The anarchist information group AlterNativE published the fourth issue of its magazine Buric in the second half of July . This time, it thematically focuses on egalitarian decision-making processes, which are a necessity in the formation of a free society. ---- The first thematic article focuses on the concept of direct democracy and the way in which it is understood by anarchists. The text is interspersed with a number of quotes from anarchist theorists. Unlike various populists today who confuse direct democracy with a referendum that adheres to the logic of bourgeois democracy (ie, who has the means to best influence the outcome), anarchist direct democracy is tied to freely formed collectives and assemblies. In addition, it is closely linked to the principles of self-government, federalism and respect for minorities. The next article deals with the issue of consensus as an alternative to direct democracy and seeks the pitfalls of this way of decision-making. And to give some practical examples, an excerpt from Peter Gelderloos' book Anarchy Works is reprinted, which deals with the issue of decision - making in self - governing groups, namely the experience of Argentina in 2001, South Korea in 1980 and Hungary in 1956.

Even in the Riot Four, there is no presentation of a personality who has made a significant contribution to anarchist history or theory. This time you can get acquainted in detail with Colin Ward (1924-2010), who is known for his work focusing on anarchist human behavior in everyday life and on practical movements, associations and tendencies that do not claim to be anarchic but fulfill many preconditions to they could be considered. He considered anarchism as such mainly a theory of organization.

There is also a look back, through an article on the history of the Anarchist Black Cross, a decentralized global initiative to support anarchists persecuted or imprisoned by the repressive machinery of individual states.

And what is new in anti-authoritarian waters in Slovakia? As we informed in the last review, the anarchist information website Zdola started working , which changed its address since the last time, but did not stop adding new posts, which we try to link to on the afed.cz website, so that nothing interesting escapes our readers. The Buric editorial promises an early opening of the Malatesta info shop, and you will also find an overview of the publications it can offer in the magazine. On behalf of the Anarchist Federation Publishing House, we are glad that we were able to contribute titles from our workshop. And probably the most anticipated event, for which an invitation is printed here, is undoubtedly the first Slovak climate camp, which will take place on 2-5. September, in the urban space - in Bratislava.
