(en) Libertarian Initiative of Thessaloniki: Rally against pandemic criminal state management and policing: Saturday 27/3, 12:00, White Tower [machine translation]

Date Tue, 6 Apr 2021 10:07:09 +0300

Collective social resistance against the creeping state and capitalist totalitarianism is a duty! ---- For a year now, the New Democracy government has been plastering society. Under the guise of tackling the pandemic, the state has launched an unprecedented brutal attack on the social base. During all this time, which would seem to be time for public health protection, heaps of reactionary anti-social and anti-labor laws have been passed at the same time as financial aid and tax breaks for big business. The state management of the pandemic is clearly class. This is evident, after all, from the priorities and strategy of government policy that is purely in the service of capitalist interests. To absolve itself of responsibility for its criminal attitude towards pandemic management, the government has brazenly made the narrative of individual responsibility the backbone of its communication strategy and mainstream propaganda, in order to delegate responsibilities to the people. With tax breaks for TV licenses and the millions granted through the famous "Petsa list" and through the annual state budget, the regime media have become the official propaganda transmitter of the government, praising the ND and its executives. and those who fight and resist against state and capitalist barbarism.

The majority of the media is controlled by the government, it lies, misinforms and slanders rudely, trying to construct submissive and slavish consciences that will be in line with government policy. The government maintains its power exclusively through communicative and ideological propaganda and police violence and repression. Recruitment to the police and army is ongoing, and strengthening their equipment is a strategic axis of government policy. The state is preparing for the suppressive prevention of impending social unrest and uprisings. The government provides the absolute political coverage for police violence and arbitrariness. Dozens of demonstrations and rallies have been brutally suppressed. Protesters are beaten and tortured by police. The repression, however, has become general and can hit anyone, even the most unsuspecting, as seen in many neighborhoods and squares throughout Greece, with the most shocking example being the incident of police violence in Nea Smyrni. To reduce the political cost, the government is covering up these incidents, as it covered the political pedophilia scandals of Lignadis and the car accident in Parliament that cost the life of a young motorcyclist dealer.

It is clear that we are experiencing a gradual diversion of the political regime towards totalitarianism and the formation of a police state, where public life is strictly delimited and controlled, as it is attempted to be done with the consciousness of the subordinate social strata. Traffic bans and fines (a purely class measure, as they are redeemable by the rich but economically exterminate the poor, as they are disproportionately high compared to the basic wage), often arbitrarily imposed, have become hoarse for the lives of millions of citizens, serving virtually no health benefits. They are measures to discipline the people in the barbaric policies and aspirations of the government. Sovereigns want to make us accustomed to submission. Furthermore, the Covid-19 pandemic health crisis exacerbates the manifestation of the capitalist crisis by widening the class gap that separates the rich from the poor. Poverty, unemployment and insecurity, misery, uncertainty, stress and psychological discomfort, intensification and deregulation of labor relations are the reality experienced by the vast majority of society today, which is why we are outraged and outraged. . That is why we are protesting and fighting, because we can no longer stand this situation, because we realize that the capitalist system is unjust and barbaric at its core. That is why we are protesting and fighting, because we can no longer stand this situation, because we realize that the capitalist system is unjust and barbaric at its core.

The necessity of our times demands the rapid and organized reorganization of social and class resistance, the formation of a militant social front that will clash with the state and capital to defend the working and popular needs, for the self-defense of the social base against the neoliberal capitalist restructuring, authoritarian state despotism, policing and the fascist parastate. It is our duty to stand in solidarity with the struggling sections of society, the health workers, the students and the workers, whom the government is fighting. To take a stand in the social war, defending the class camp to which we belong. Either with the state and the bosses or with the struggling social base.

Only self-organization from below, social and class struggles, the strengthening of unions and workers' initiatives, student groups and associations, open neighborhood assemblies, social centers can provide a way out of the structural impasses and inherent contradictions of capitalism. , mutual aid structures, anti-fascist coordination and political collectivities. This system will either overturn or fall on our heads, to flatten us. There is no middle ground. We have no illusions about humanizing this barbaric system. Any compromise with the capitalist system entails retreating, undermining our class interests and frustrating them for us from below. The road to social liberation, that of social revolution, is rough and difficult, but there is no other way. We must walk this path together, united and organized, the oppressed and the exploited.
