(en) Britain, Yorkshire Anarchist Group call for Solidarity with the Belgrade 6! Solidarity with FAU Berlin!

Date Tue, 23 Feb 2010 12:11:23 +0200

Dear comrade, In the Serbian capital Belgrade six anarchists are facing trumped-up “international terrorism” charges and the prospect of lengthy prison sentences arising from some minor vandalism done to the Greek embassy. Having spent months in jail, they were finally released yesterday (17th February) on parole, but still face serious charges. Five of the six are members of Anarcho-Syndicalist Iniatative (ASI), the Serbian section of the International Workers Association (IWA). http://belgradesolidarity.org/ In the German capital Berlin the Free Workers Union (FAU), the German section of the IWA, has been effectively prohibited from functioning as a union by the Berlin Regional Court, with the threat of heavy fines and imprisonment. On 16th February, the Berlin Regional Court decreed it unlawful for FAU to even call for a boycott of Babylon cinema, the employer with whom FAU has been involved in a lengthy and bitter industrial dispute (and which is the driving force behind the ban). https://www.fau.org/verbot/en

The West Yorkshire branch of Solidarity Federation, the UK section of the IWA, is calling a rally at 12 midday on Saturday 27 February outside Leeds City Art Gallery to protest and express solidarity with our comrades in Serbia and in Germany. Please come along if you can! Flags and banners welcome! We will be leafletting passersby about the situation and advertising two local meetings at which the IWA Secretary will speak about the cases and there will be discussion on what we can do to help.
The first of these will be at The 1in12 Club in Bradford on Friday 5 March at 7.30pm. The second will be at The Common Place in Leeds on Sunday 7 March at 2pm.

Hope to see you there. Please feel free to print and display the attached publicity posters for the speaking tour.
