We’re “dying” of hunger… While they’re “dying” of laughter
A campaign of action to denounce the decision makers of the Charest
government and their buddies among the business-elite
We’ll see who has the last laugh…
They are dying of laughter while they starve us and create more poverty.
Meanwhile, they just keep getting richer and richer, and record profits of
major business’ can attest to this. Whether it’s the pharmaceutical
industry, oil companies or the banks, nothing can satisfy their
shareholder’s constant demand for bigger profits. Capitalism allows for
this indecency where a minority of individuals keep getting richer while
the majority falls deeper into poverty at alarming rates. Presently, the
Charest Government is moving ahead full force in their plan to completely
prioritize the needs of the market over those of individuals and the state.
In other words, the needs of big companies, multinationals and their
shareholders take priority. Politicians are no longer trying to hide the
fact that they can easily be bought off by big companies, and this seems to
be accepted as unavoidable. It’s these same politicians that are slashing
welfare, draining the life out of the health care system and dismantling
the education system, etc…

The Comite des sans-emploi and CLAC-Logement are confronting the “horror”
of the anti-poverty policies of the government through action! At the
public assembly on the evening of Thursday the 4th of November the Comite
des sans-emploi and CLAC-Logement will launch their campaign to denounce
those that are profiting from poverty, the decision makers in the
government at the municipal and provincial levels, and all their friends of
the business elite. They better prepare themselves for surprise visits,
‘cuz we’ll be showing up… to express our outrage! Real violence is in
poverty, hunger, homelessness, in loss of dignity, long waiting lists for
surgeries, student debts, the loss of a job, long lines in soup kitchens,
the empty stomachs of children and their single mothers… Our anger is
legitimate. Poverty and misery are not a coincidence, they are the result
of a system run for the profit of a few.

The public assembly on November 4th will be the occasion to hear panelists
discuss the issues around gentrification and the revitalization of downtown
and Centre-Sud in Montreal. What roles do the store owners, the police, the
city and the diverse institutions (like UQAM for example) play in the
transformation of downtown? What consequences do these transformations have
on people of low-income who are living downtown and in the surrounding
neighbourhoods? You are all invited to the public assembly on November 4th
where these questions and several others will be addressed.
*Ed. Note: La CLAC -- the antiauthoritarian Anti-Capitalist Convergence of
Montreal -- is a grassroots organization comprised of several autonomous
groups that are active in various social struggles.
