Anarchists participate to protests against "case of veterinarians" in Moscow
6th of April around 50 people gathered around building of Kuzminski court house,
in order to protest against persecution of those veterinarians who use painkillers
when operating animals. Anarchists and other supporter of veterinarians organised
a performance which was hardly more absurd than the show inside the house.
There, already fifth session of the court case against Konstantin Sadovedov, who
injected a cat with ketamine, was taking place. Sadovedov is one of veterinarians
who have been caught during raids of Gosnarkokontor during its campaign against
use of Ketamine by veterinarians. Altogether there are 19 defendants around Russia,
all accused with different cases, but no other cases have been in courts yet.

Director of Gosnarokontrol Viktor Cherkesov insists, that use of Ketamine when
operating animals is a crime, since already 6 years ago drug was accidentally
dropped from list of allowed drugs. In January of 2004 Russian ministry of health
and ministry of agriculture issued orders, which allow use of Ketamine, but
corresponding decision of the government is not ready yet. This disarray in
work of the government bureaucracy allows Gosnarkokontrol to open new cases
against veterinarians. Konstantin Sadovedov is accused of illegal drug trade.

Ketamine is used for anesthesia in veterinary practice world-wide, and there
exists no no purposeful substitute. During last 6 months, veterinarians
around Russia have been forced to refuse to operate sick animals. In one of
the court sessions, lawyer of Sadovedov reminded court that main witness, a
cat injected with ketamine should be invited to session to give testimony,
and it should also be investigated if ketamine injection caused cat being
addicted to ketamine.

26th of April in Vladimir two officers of Gosnarkokontrol raided a
veterinary clinic in of Sacco and Vanzetti street during operation, and took
doctor to an interrogation. Dog died the next day.

18th of May campaign for Konstatin Sasovedov ended successfully, when all
charges against him were dropped. Persecution of veterinarians however still
continues, 26th of May Alexander Duk faces charges which may result him being
locked up for 15 years. Gosnarkokontrol officers set a trap to Duk, where he
was invited to a house to operate a sick animal. Plain clothes Gosnarkokontrol
officials demanded Duk to let them inject the dog, and when he refused, they
demanded him to sell the drug to them, from which Duk refused as well. Failed
in setting a trap to Duk, they seized syringe from Duk by force, and arrested
