ARE POOR! And it's Jean Charest's fault…
An anarchist march through Montreal's most affluent
neighbourhood, organised as part of the Anarchist Bookfair.
Time: 6:30 PM Date: Saturday, May 15th, 2004 Meet: Lionel Groulx Metro
Once again, the Anarchist Bookfair will be held in
Little Burgundy. Like its neighbouring St.Henri,
Little Burgundy was traditionally working-class, but
is today undergoing rapid and merciless
gentrification. Nearby, straight uphill, there is
Westmount, the weathiest neighbourhood in Canada that
is home to some of the most distinctive figures of the
bourgeoisie such as Jean Charest, Brian Mulroney, the
Bronfman family as well as many condo developers who
are making big bucks along the Lachine Canal.

On Saturday, May 15th 2004, CLAC Logement and the
Comité des sans-emploi invite you to join us again for
"@nother Tour of Westmount: They are rich because we
are poor! And it’s Jean Charest’s fault..." This
anarchist march through Westmount will allow the
presence of anarchists and anti-authoritarians to be
experienced by Montreal's political and financial
elite as they relax at home.

This march will also denounce anti-social policies of
the Charest government, which are bringing Quebec down
the neoliberal drain. While most people pay more and
more for their rent, for heating, for childcare, for
public transit, for school, and while many suffer from
deteriorating working conditions or even lose the
right to unionize, Jean Charest has clearly chosen his
side. His “re-engineering of the State" empoverishes
most of the population bringing them further into
misery for the profit of a minority who hides in
refuges like Westmount. It will always be legitimate
to venture in rich people’s hideaways to shout “Stop
the war on the poor, make the pay !".

Bring your flags and your banners of resistance! And
your walking shoes and water bottle, because it's
going to be a long walk uphill!

This march is part of a broader campaign against Jean
Charest’s re-engineering of the State organised by
CLAC Logement and the Comité des sans-emploi
Montréal-Centre. For more information, visit
