With the Republican National Convention coming to town, anarchists are
once again at the forefront of organizing mass protests against the
deadly and destructive policies of a corrupt and brutal state. Monday
evening, Aug. 23, a collective of New York activists who are organizing
against the RNC will conduct a teach-in and media briefing on anarchism
and its role in today's mass political actions - against the World Trade
Organization, against the Iraq invasion, against racist and oppressive

Anarchists organizing? Isn't that an oxymoron? Actually, anarchists are
very interested in organizing - just not the way it's done by
governments, corporations, and religious institutions. We will discuss
how anarchist techniques of nonhierarchical, leaderless organizing are
transforming political activism, creating a new model for
community-based decision-making and a new vision of a better society
without the state. We will also take apart the many myths about
anarchists' strategies and tactics.

Speakers will include:

* Starhawk, author and veteran of progressive movements who is deeply
committed to bringing the techniques and creative power of spirituality
to political activism.

* David Graeber, professor of anthropology at Yale University.

* Others

Bring your questions and your open minds. This event is for journalists
as well as members of the public who want to know more.
