After years of avoiding May Day, and the spirit of rebellion
that makes up its history, the BC Federation of Labour and the
Vancouver and District Labour Council is calling for a march
and rally this May 1st.
In contrast to the union bosses, and in the wake of the street
clashes in Seattle at the World Trade Organization summit in
1999, anarchists in Vancouver have consistently worked to revive
May Day as forum to both celebrate our resistance and disturb the
peace of the wealthy ruling class.

The anarchist roots of May Day are undeniable. More than one
hundred years ago our comrades in Chicago marched side by with
thousands of unemployed and working people through the streets
of rich neighbourhoods, calling for uncompromising warfare
against the bosses of this world. Because of their struggle, four
anarchists were executed by the state, but their memory served to
inspire a new generation of anarchists, unemployed people, and
working class rebels to take up the fight for freedom.

We are calling for an anarchist contingent at the May Day labour
march, to unify our forces, to join rank-and-file workers in
solidarity, and to continue May Day's dignified tradition of

Afterwards we will join the Mayworks event in Grandview Park,
and will take part in an Anti-Capitalist/Anarchist May Day parade
and action.

Look for the Black and Black-and-Red Flags!!! Bring drums, pots
and pans and noise-makers!!!

For the Labour March we'll meet at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre
Plaza, in the southwest corner (at the corner of Georgia and
Hamilton Streets) - May 1st, 11:00am

Followed by the May Day Parade and Anarchist May Day Action,
4:00pm at Grandview Park on Commercial Drive, with free food.
Bring drums, pots and pans and noise-makers!!!
