________________________________________________

A big hello to all of you thousands of Infoshop.org fans, espcially
those of you who have been enjoying the summer in the northern
hemisphere. Usually the summer is a quiet time for websites and
publishing projects, but this summer has been an exception for us.
Traffic to the website has been heavy throughout the summer and
volunteers with Infoshop have been busy beavers.
Over the summer we finally finished setting up the Infoshop
nonprofit, the Alternative Media Project, which provides an
organizational umbrella for Infoshop.org, as well as Practical
Anarchy magazine and several new projects, including our
forthcoming press, Breaking Glass Press. The nonprofit makes it
easier for people to donate to the project and mail stuff to us. It also
provides some accountability--there is now an adfvisory board with
three members.

More could be said about projects associated with the Alternative
Media Project, but this is an update about Infoshop.org. We are
making progress towards new features for supporters. The Infoshop
sustainers email list will be activated soon. People who donate to
Infoshop, or who have donated to Infoshop, will have free access to
this email list, which will include essays, reviews, special resource
compilations, and more. We are also getting close to printing
Infoshop.org t-shirts. With any luck the first batch will be available
by the end of September.

UPCOMING FEATURES

We have several new projects in the works, which will be fully
interactive and will allow people to easily become volunteers. Look
for these projects to come online in the next month or two.

Infoshop.org Portal portal.infoshop.org

The Infoshop.org homepage is really awesome, but it can't be all
things to all people. The Infoshop Portal page will be an interactive
feature that will provide access to Infoshop content and news, as
well as provide a gateway to the best in anarchist, alternative,
radical and mainstream news and resources. It will put links to
activist search engines and news sites together on the same page.
This alternative portal will also provide access to syndicated
content from other websites. The goal of this project will be to
create a user customizable portal so we don't have to guiltily visit
Yahoo and Google all the time.

Infoshop.org DIY diy.infoshop.org

Have a recipe to exchange? Want to trade radical child-raising
techniques? Need advice about hopping freights? Fixing your car?
Organizing your worpkplace?

Infoshop.org DIY will provide an anarchist-run information exchange
for all people who are interesting in trading do-it-yourself ideas and
techniques.

UPGRADES

Infoshop Matchmaker

Infoshop's radical dating service has been gathering dust, but we are
close to bringing it back, better than ever! We have been working on
a project to move this service towards being a database-driven
interactive website. This has taken longer than expected, but the
new version should be available soon.

Infoshop News

Infoshop News is our most popular feature, attracting thousands of
visitors every day. But the price of popularity is that Infoshop News
has been overwhelmed with traffic recently, which has prevented
people from access on busy days. Our goal is to migrate Infoshop
News to new software, which will provide additional features and
allow our equipment to better manage the traffic. If you are a
programmer who is interested in helping with this project, please get
in touch with us. If you have ideas about changes to Infoshop News,
or additional features that you'd like to see, please contact us.

VOLUNTEER

Infoshop.org runs on the love of a growing cast of volunteers. There
are many areas of Infoshop where one can become a volunteer right
away. We are still looking for people to help with the Anarchist
Youth (youth.infoshop.org) and science.infoshop.org websites. You
can become a volunteer in these projects by registering at these
sites and then sending us a message about yourself, your interests
and how you'd like to help.

If you speak Italian, Spanish, German or Swedish, you can also
register at one of our corresponding language sites and become a
volunteer.

OUTREACH

More infoshop outreach materials are in the works. People ask us all
the time how they can help this project--one of the most things
people can help with is outreach. Pass out flyers. Post the URL on
messageboards. We always get complaints about Infoshop graffiti
on sidewalks and billboards. We encourage that kind of thing, but we
can't help out if you get arrested. ;-)

LASTLY

I want to thank everybody for their ongoing support for this project.
Your words of support and advice have been an excellent incentive
to keep going during these difficult political times.
