As you probably know, The Living Theatre is a fifty-year-old
experimental theater company dealing with political and social issues.
One of our main interests is creating plays with communities that
express the issues of concern to that community. In the past few years
we have done this in Sarajevo, Belgrade and Beirut. We also did it in
New York City two weeks after 9/11 and at the G8 summit in Genoa
Italy. We are an affinity group of pacifist-anarchists. We have created
plays about anarchist theory, anti-imperialism and for the past ten years
we have been performing an anti-death penalty play called, Not in My
Name in Times Square on days when there are executions in the United
States. In one or two weeks, depending on how much time is available
to rehearse, we can create a play with the people in your community
that we call, A Day in the Life of the City. We work with people of any
level of performance experience; students, community activists and
workers. We create scenes with the participants on ideas and issues
that they want to express. The play can be performed outside in any
space as well as a cafeteria or gym, or black box or proscenium theater.
