Alachua for Global Justice invites folks who intend to participate in
November's protests against the FTAA in Miami, FL to join us for a three-day
action camp here in rural North Central Florida, November 6-8.
The Free Trade Area of the Americas 8th Ministerial Meeting will be held in
Miami from November 17-21, 2003, and people from around Florida, around the US,
and around the world will be coming to Miami to demonstrate our global
resistance to the international financial and political elites' "free trade"
agenda of greed, exploitation, degradation, and corporate rule. The AGJ Action
Camp will be open to participants with all levels of experience, from folks who
are new to large street demonstrations to experienced activists. We will
organize, discuss, and get a heads-up on what to expect in Miami.
The Camp will be held at a beautiful rural site among the pinewoods, live oaks,
and farms of the countryside near Gainesville, Florida. Campers should bring
their own tents, tarps, bedrolls, and other gear. It is a low-intensity camping
situation, with port-a-potties and out door showers. If this may not work for
you, let us know.
Freedom isn’t free: we’re requesting a donation of $10-$50 to cover our costs;
however, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. We will be undertaking
small work projects on the land provided for the Camp, in order to help out our
hosts and thank them for our stay, so participants may contribute time and
energy in addition to or in lieu of cash.
For the sake of security at the Camp and harmonious relations in the host
community, we ask that attendees work with us in order to keep a low profile
and leave as little impact as possible on the community in which the camp is
located. Our hosts respectfully request that attendees not bring dogs, and that
we minimize automobile traffic on the land and nearby roads. We will be
organizing parking in Gainesville and shuttle rides to the host site.
Join us for four days of workshops, skill-sharing, affinity-building, and
collective labor. Workshops include: Grassroots Organizing 101; Nonviolent
Direct Action Training; History, Culture and Politics of Miami; Self-defense;
Puppet-Making; Anti-Oppression Organizing; and many more.
Bring your ideas for action, your intelligence and dedication, your respect for
allies, your courage in acting in solidarity with liberation struggles around
the globe. Let's keep on building and celebrating a vibrant, militant anti-
authoritarian culture and movement. Do not bring any weapons, drugs, alcohol,
pets, or dangerous contraband.
If you are interested in participating, please send in the application form
below, to help us have a sense of how many people we need to prepare for.
We are committed to building a more unified, just and diverse movement. To
foster an environment of equality and cooperation, women, people of color,
indigenous people, LGBTQ and differently-abled people are especially encouraged
to apply. Applications will be processed on a rolling basis.
Please bring your instruments, bulk food, Art supplies, radical kids books,
5gal buckets with lids.
**All employees of law enforcement, including FBI, CIA, homeland security, etc.
and anyone working with or for any of these agencies are strictly prohibited
from attending the AGJ Action Camp!
**The AGJ Action camp is CLOSED to all corporate media!
*[Ed. Note: from webpage:
AGJ is particularly interested in providing space for
anti-capitalist/anti-imperialist and anti-authoritarian
radicals to discuss strategy and tactics, share
information and ideas, and organize, for Miami and long
term. The consulta is open to new and experienced,
Florida/southeast region and national or international
people alike."
