Following up on our joint declaration on the situation with the OSBL / Alternative
Bookshop, we held an anarchist distributors' kiosk in Montreal last Saturday
November 22. Well situated at the Café Chaos on St-Denis street, this first kiosk
brought together literature by the distributors from Bête Noire /NEFAC,
Journal Le Trouble, La Mauvaise Herbe, Maikan
distribution, LA Sociale/ Centre de Diffusion
Libertaire and L'ASE / LA Fronde. Despite a strike
that shut down public transport services for the
better part of the day, the kiosk attracted a large number of people.
We were agreeably surprised with the welcome for our
joint initiative, and with our sales. Without being
asked, a few new faces mentioned that the kiosk is
welcome given the void created by the bad situation
with the Alternative Bookshop. We emphasize that we
are not willingly an itinerant kiosk; we have no fixed
location by necessity, due to the unacceptable
situation in the OSBL Alternative Bookshop.
We can thus say that the anarchist distribution kiosk
was an unmitigated success, organizationally and
economically, and already several among us would like
to hold another in the near future.
