At last, here's the general information regarding the meeting! The preparation
process has been quite slow due to reconsiderations of its content and function.
With the phrase "reconsiderations of content and function" we are
referring, firstly, to the quietness on the global dimension and to what
conclusions we should make based on this. The closure of the Seattle cycle
doesn't need to be repeated, and moreover, for our part, there has been no
participation in the WSF/ESF-process (except some minor participation in
the Finnish Social Forum) or any other "mobilization", as the prevalent
tendency and goal has been to locate struggles into the metropolitan space
and its proletarian youth.
Obviously there are different experiences and opinions among the
participants of the meeting about the usefulness of WSF/ESF-participation
etc. And that's OK, because within this network there is no need for a
common and explicit political program nor central decision making, but
rather mutual co-ordination of autonomous struggles. Nevertheless, there
is reason ask what we have in common at the moment, in our differing
situations. We think that there is no need to repeat the history of every
participating group again, but rather to ask, quite simply, what struggles
we have been creating and realizing and on which area.
The condition of participation is, of course, the approval the five PGA
hallmarks. Participation fees will not be asked for as such, but we will
gather a small mandatory contribution for compensating for the travel of
those with the least resources and furthest to travel. Accommodation will
take place at comrades' homes. Participation needs to be confirmed by
e-mail (finlandia@ecn.org), hopefully as soon as possible. We are also
hoping that the participants will make some kind of plans before the
meeting regarding what they want from it, what ideas they want to
emphasize etc. if not even write these things down beforehand.
