A former member of the Black Panther Party, and a Black Liberation Army
political prisoner for over 12 years, Ashanti Alston will be in Montreal
for the 4th Annual Anarchist Bookfair and the Festival of Anarchy between
May 16-18.
On May 16, Ashanti will be part of a panel and public meeting called
"Anarchists Against War" along with other activists from the USA, France
and Quebec. On May 17, he will be tabling with his zine as part of the
Anarchist Bookfair, along with booksellers, distributors and political
groups from all over North America. And on May 18, he will be presenting a
workshop -- a critical look at the Black Panther Party and its relevance
for contemporary struggle -- as part of a day of anarchist-themed
workshops called "Demand the Impossible". [More details below].

Ashanti, 49, is a New York-city based activist, organizer, writer and
storyteller. He is the North-east regional coordinator of Critical
Resistance, an abolition movement in opposition to the prison industrial
complex. He is a member of Estacion Libre, a people-of-colour US-based
organization that organizes solidarity visits to Zapatista-controlled
Chiapas for other people-of-colour. He is also a member of Blacks Against
the War.

Ashanti has been an anarchist for over a decade, and self-publishes an
occasional zine called "Anarchist Panther".

For interviews with Ashanti, or other information about the Montreal
Bookfair, please e-mail bookfair2003@ziplip.com or phone 514-844-3207.
