Salud comrades!
Tomorrow the 1st Balkan Anarchist Bookfair - International Anarchist gathering
will start in Ljubljana-Slovenia. We are sending you last infos abot why and
what will be going on on this gathering. Please feel free to use or to spread
this infos around to all the comrades in struggle.
Unfortunatly, some people which should come to the bookfair, will not be able
to join us, because of viza regime. Although we made everything to make their
arrival possible (also garant and invitation letters), slovenian embassies in
Bosnia and Serbia did not give vizas to our comrades and so some comrades,
from
some states, cannot come to this gathering.
You can expect some reports about and from the 1st Balkan Anarchist Bookfair
in
the days after the end of this gathering.
Feel free to contact us!

"From local organisation to international struggle"
1. Balkan Anarchist Book Fair - International Anarchist gathering
March 27. - 30. 2003, Ljubljana - Slovenia
Anarchism and anarchist movement has, with few exceptions, no
actual tradition or history in the area of former Yugoslavia. First
anarchist initiatives arise in the 90's with the fall of the communist
regime and collapse of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
During the war, anarchists were mainly involved in anti-war
activities. However, war conditions and poorly developed
movement provided no basis for the development of any concrete
anarchist alternative to war. The present situation varies from state
to state, considering different war experience and visions of the
future. Also anarchism and anarchist movement, although on
different stages of development, are in similar position. The
anarchist movement started to grow in the end of the 90's, when the
first initiatives for local organisation rose up. At this time, actions
and projects began, together with constant presence of anarchists
in the socio-political sphere. Uprising of the global anti-capitalist
resistance, in which anarchism and anarchist movement play an
important role, give even more encouragement for the development
of anarchist movement in former Yugoslav republics.
For the first time in history, one can now speak of a real anarchist
movement in the area of former Yugoslavia with a clear vision of
the future, program and plans. The latter concern construction of
strong local structures as well as common organisations, efficient
communication and cooperation. At the end, the movement is a part
of international struggle for social justice, classless society, and
against state authority and capitalism. It fights for the realisation of
anarchist requests for a free society - libertarian communism.
As a result of the construction of local anarchist structures, diverse
and constructive discussions on the cooperation and further
development of anarchism began. There the idea of organisation of
1. Balkan Anarchist Book Fair was born. BAKS is a true anarchist
gathering with strong international participation, but also a place for
further discussion, establishing contacts and presentation of Balkan
anarchist movement to the international anarchist movement, as
well as planning further actions and setting short-term and
long-term goals for future common projects and campaigns.
1. Balkan Anarchist Book Fair will take place on March 27. - 30. in
Ljubljana, Slovenia. We expect around hundred anarchists from 13
different European countries. At the fair, a number of anarchist
groups and organisations, publishers and distributors as well as
individuals will participate. This gathering will definitely contribute
to the growth of anarchism in the region. We believe that the book
fair will become a traditional anarchists' gathering, which would
take place every year in a different country.
