Attacking the so-called "East Bay Anarchists" who have
helped facilitate breakaway marches during huge
anti-war demonstrations in San Francisco recently,
SFPD has blundered and allowed us to get classified
documents and other proof of a political police
squadron formed in the wake of 9-11 law enforcement
reorganization.
New SFPD internal documents have been published on SF
Indymedia along with a mirror of documents published
last week on the SF Bay Guardian website.

The "SOS Bureau" at SFPD seems to be a political
police red squad formed after 9/11.
http://sf.indymedia.org/news/2003/03/1583174.php
Led by SFPD's Richard Bruce, the SOS squad's mission
is explained on their website: "[SFPD] recognized that
the events of 9-11 forever changed the way we look at
security. In line with our continual efforts to better
protect the City's population, the Special Operations
& Security Bureau (SOSB) was formed. The main purpose
of this bureau is to enhance existing law enforcement
efforts with the goal of achieving normalcy during
these times of heighten alert."
The police's heavy surveillance and violent response
to a peaceful day of anti-war demonstrations this past
weekend lends more credibility to the idea of an SFPD
red squad. A non-violent march which was proceeding on
the sidewalk was repeatedly declared an "illegal
assembly." SFPD officers indiscriminately attacked and
arrested crowds of people (including shoppers and
tourists) around Mission & Market between 3rd and
10th. Over 150 people were arrested.

Anti-war resistance will be escalating this week when
Bush finally goes to war against the wishes of nearly
everyone on the face of the earth. An all-night
protest is announced for the night the war starts, and
the next day, a broad protest coalition has vowed to
shut down SF's entire financial district. Latest news
