A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C E

WHEN: Friday, July 4th @ 5PM WHERE: Rockville Metro (on the Red Line)
The group Students for Peace and Justice (SPJ) formed in January of
this year to protest the Bush administration's unjustified war on Iraq.
Since that campaign, this independent group comprised entirely of high
school students has been involving itself in a variety of projects
related to youth liberation and the growth of activist culture for high
schoolers in the DC Metro area. Towards this goal, SPJ has organized
a demonstration and party in the "Reclaim the Streets" tradition to
take place in the town of Rockville on July 4th.

By naming it “The [No Government Can Give You Your]
Independence Day Street Party”, SPJ has taken a decidedly radical
stance, declaring in its press release, “With love for the total
freedom with which every human is born, regardless of any state's
irrelevant declarations, we reclaim our rights. With frustration we see
apathy sold as consent, greed sold as compassion, aggression sold as
security; we resist, we refuse, and this fourth of July we take to the

The party is sure to be well-attended by representatives of political
organizations such as the Green Party and “National Youth Rights
Association”. The opportunistic and pro-liberal, pro-government
involvement of these groups has moved the anti-authoritarian
elements of SPJ to specifically ask for a revolutionary anti-capitalist
presence at this event. Let’s face it: revolutionaries have more fun
(and are sexier).

We call on all anarchists, anti-authoritarians, autonomist communists,
and those interested in youth liberation to genuinely support Students
for Peace & Justice in their efforts to shut down a Rockville street
without permit and hold an Independence Day counter-celebration on

DIRECTIONS: We will assemble at Rockville Metro (Red Line) at 5
PM. An anti-capitalist/anti-authoritarian bloc and spokescouncil will
briefly form at the Red & Anarchist Action Network banner, where we
will discuss the bloc’s involvement with an SPJ representative.
Everyone will then march to a pre-determined location near the
fireworks display at Richard Montgomery High School (250 Richard
Montgomery Drive) and occupy the street.

We are hoping to have a street medic on hand, and in the event of
police violence we are looking for the bloc’s assistance in
protecting the group and all non-arrestable activists/partygoers.
However, as this is a street party and not a march or direct action, we
are not looking for or expecting confrontations with the police, and the
bloc will not need to stay together after the initial march.

BRING: food, red flags, black flags, roadblocks, games, drums (and
other instruments), fun, and all your friends!

*Please note that bikes will not be allowed on the Metro for July 4th*

We believe it to be of great importance for radicals in this area to
support the independent efforts of SPJ, and actively participate in
what promises to be a major point of revival for activism in the
(alienated wastelands known as the) DC suburbs.
