In the face of a housing crisis & against the logic of
capitalism, we demand:
DECENT HOUSING FOR ALL!
End the criminalization of poverty and homelessness!
The right to squat empty buildings!
Join us for a DEMONSTRATION that will head to the site
where we'll erect our Tent City.

Noon
Corner of Parc Lafontaine and Cherrier
(South-West corner of Parc Lafontaine)

Free community meal!
Bring your drums, banners and a good pair of walking
shoes.
And don't forget your tent and sleeping bag!
This first of July, more women, men and children will
find themselves without a roof over their heads as the
vacancy rate drops, rents rise and the gap between
rich and poor grows. With nowhere to live and an
inadequate shelter system, many folks will be sleeping
in Montreal's parks, vacant lots and abandoned
buildings. There they will face abuse and brutality at
the hands of the police and private security companies
as the city tries to hide the "ugly" face of the
housing crisis from summer tourists. No more! This
summer, we'll put up our tents in solidarity with
other poor and homeless people. We'll create a zone of
organized resistance where people can live, enjoy
themselves, share skills and ideas, organize, defend
themselves and plan for the future. While we fight for
the housing we need, we will defend those who have no
choice but the streets. Join us for a demonstration
that will head to the site where we'll erect our Tent
City.
During the first week of July, activists in Vancouver
and Sherbrooke will also establish Tent Cities to
demand decent housing for everyone!
The Montreal Tent City action will take place with the
support and endorsement of the following
organisations:
ASSÉ
Association étudiante d'histoire à l'UQÀM
Association étudiante de sociologie à lUQÀM
Bête Noire (NEFAC)
Les Chats Noirs
CKUT 90.3 FM
Comité BAILS Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

There are still a number of ways you can help support
the Tent City...
==>ENDORSEMENTS: If you or your organization can help
out with this important action, or would like to
endorse this action, please get in touch with us.
==> $$ and MATERIAL SUPPORT: We can still use
donations of money and stuff for this action. Here is
a specific list of items we will need once Tent City
is opened. Please get in touch with if you want to
know where to bring donations before the action -- or
just bring stuff straight to Tent City once it is
open:
* food (if your organization would like to sponsor a
meal, let us know!)
* sleeping bags
* old blankets
* tarps
* construction tools
* sand
* rope
* coolers
* bins for dishwashing
* sponges
* dish soap
==> MOBILISATION: At the demonstration and march, and
during the tent city, it is very important than there
be a strong show of support from members of the
community, to ensure our safety as well as to make the
action a success, so spread the word and encourage
members of your organization to come out.
==> SKILLS & CREATIVITY: Are you an artist, musician
or some kind of performer interested in performing
during the tent city? Are you interested in sharing a
skill or giving a workshop? Get in touch!
See you on July 5th!
