"You know like 30 years from now when anti-authoritarians are
reading about RAAN in their history books, I want our chapter to be
titled 'The Red & Anarchist Action Network: When Sexiness Walked
the Earth'. In fact, I'm going to quote myself on that right now." -
Nachie

The concept for this journal arose out of the experiences of the
recently formed Red & Anarchist Action Network (RAAN) in trying
to organize a collective in Columbus, Ohio. In the face of passive
resistance to organizational initiatives among anti-authoritarians,
(which has thus far only served to stonewall the development of our
movement) we have decided to open a dialogue in our network focused
specifically on the practical organizational methods that RAAN should
implement as it begins to grow.

With the first publication of the network, the Principles and Direction,
we had established for ourselves a firm theoretical base off of which
to operate. The P&D did not, however, sufficiently answer the
question of "action" in the network. This had been the conscious result
of the process of our formation, in which we committed ourselves
firmly to a diversity of tactics, and resolved that what was to be
considered appropriate "action" by this "action network" would never
be cemented into a final doctrine, but could only develop continuously
alongside and as a result of the experiences and struggles of our
organization and the individuals within it. The goal of Praxis Journal is
to express certain elements of this development.

The concept of "praxis" - applied revolutionary action, is the essential
counterpart to anti-capitalist theory; neither can exist without the
other. Praxis Journal acts within RAAN as a forum for ideas and
discussion related specifically to how the network should make itself
apparent in everyday life. In this first edition, we have tried to deal
with some of the most basic issues that might be faced by RAAN
organizers in various regions. Armed with the theoretical unity of the
Principles, and bolstered by this developing dialogue on its
implementation, our network will have what it needs to grow.

DISCLAIMER:

By their very nature, the contents of any journal or publication cannot
in themselves extend beyond mere theory, the discussion of how to
best bring about a revolution. The name of this project, Praxis, is not
an attempt at dodging this reality, but rather to make obvious our
intents in adding another publication to the often-confusing leftist
quagmire. True praxis can only exist as a physical revolutionary act,
be it expressed through interactions with state forces, or within our
own relationships as we try to establish collectives in the network
that will represent a truly successful anti-political form of
organization. The purpose of this journal is to suggest and analyze
praxis, towards the ultimate goal of a stronger network and an
increase of effectiveness in our movement.
