A-Infos (en) Massively followed dockers strike in Spain (ca)

is being held to analyse the Fomento Ministry proposal.
 The majority of Spanish dockers, around 5 000 workers, are on
strike, with the exception of Galician ones due to the ?Prestige?
catastrophe, and in the Pajares port (Almería), where the majority
of the workers is affiliated to UGT. The strike is called by the
Confederation General del Trabajo (CGT) and by IC, both having
joined in an European strike in that sector last Friday.

 The dockers demand the suspension of the law regulating the
economical regime services of ports of general interest, presented
by the Fomento Ministry, until the European directive on the port
services access is approved, if that be the case.

 According to the dockers, this proposed law is affecting the contract
conditions of some 60 percent workers affected to charging and discharging
in Spanish ports.

 As it is, it would bring their substitution by people with lower salaries
And less qualification, implying a loss in security and would not reduce
the merchandizes transport costs.

 A strike of this kind in Spain amounts to a loss between  24
and 30 million euros per day in the ports activity.
