> Subject: Monday night at KYTES

Comradly greetings to Fellow Workers, Slackers,
& Members of All Future Splinter Factions!

Following the four successful Anarchist Cafe evenings
at KYTES, this Monday February 10th starting at 7:30pm
will be the kick-off for a new series of anarchist
discussions, beginning with the elusive topic:
'Anarchism and the Kibbutz Way Of Life'*.

The discussion will be facilitated by Dave Fingrut, who
will talk about his recent 8 month stint at Kibbutz Samar,
an anarchist kibbutz located close to the Egyptian and
Jordanian borders and the Red Sea in southern Israel.

(Yeah, OK, Jaggi Singh was supposed to come in and talk,
but he cancelled on us because he's too busy giving his
speeches at various universities across the province to
come to our meek little anarchist discussion group. But
he did promise to come in to facilitate a discussion
or debate for us at a later date).

Anyways, KYTES is located at 466 Bathurst, just south of
College, and north of the beer store. This is a free
event, but please bring vegan snacks to share. Coffee
will be provided by Alternative Grounds, even though word
has it that they have a shoddy managerial structure.

Readings recommended for this event can be found at
http://www.anarchistcommunitarian.net/articles/kibbutz/
The article 'Anarchism in the Kibbutz Movement' (copies
of which were brought to the 3rd session of the Anarchist
Cafe) can be found here, along with 'Anarchy Rules!', which
talks about Kibbutz Samar more specifically, and others.

Previous readings from the 4-week Anarchist Cafe series are
still available online at http://acafe.nomadology.net

Also recommended is 'Anarchists in Israel' - by Sam Dolgoff
http://flag.blackened.net/liberty/dolgoff-israel.html
and 'Are anarchists opposed to national liberation struggles?'
http://infoshop.org/faq/secD7.html - which itself will be an upcoming
discussion
topic.

To join the collective that will be organizing the next few
events, or to suggest specific discussion topics, write
back to this email address: 1871@paris.com

Later,

BTW: exactly 75 years ago to this day, Emma Goldman traveled
to Montreal, where she gave two lectures in Yiddish on birth
control and on art & revolution. After that, she left for
Halifax, en route to France.

As well, today is the Samoan Feast of La'ala'a, in honour of
the Upolu god of wrestling, so dust off those old plastic WWF
action figures and we'll see you in the ring!

* [Ed. Note: Though the internal relations of Israeli kibutzes - communes
were in the long past libertarian communist with "from each according
to ability - to each according to needs" - it was subsidized heavily by
the zionist settler colonialist establishment. The motivation of members
was mainly nationalist. They only once accepted one Palestinian member...
and they were consciously volunteers in the service naZionist project.

Gradually they deteriorated, and all of the remaining Kibbutzes are
integrated into the capitalist system - even the "Anarchist kibutz
Samar"..... However, it was a wonderful laboratory in real libertarian
communist relations for all anarchists to learn from -

I.S. ex-member of 16 years in the kibbutzes movement - expelled for
anti Zionist activities....]
