Thursday, Nov. 20 marked an important day for the anti-capitalist
anti-authoritarian direct action movement. Once again we found
ourselves in the streets next to workers, students, immigrants, our
elders, and people from poor neighborhoods. When the police attacked
a handful of us, they ended up injuring us all. Even when the police
broke every agreement they made with the AFL-CIO, we kept every
agreement that was worked out. There is an enormous amount of
support and solidarity for those who were adversely affected by the
police?s actions coming from many different sectors of the global
justice struggle. Many things have happened since the first swing of
the club, and a large amount of progress has been made on our part.
Despite our welts, scars, and emotional trauma, we are faced with the
fact that Miami was a police model and precursor for upcoming
demonstrations. With the next consulta more than 2 months away,
there is a necessity to build enough momentum to carry the energy
created in Miami into our future.
The Midwest Unrest Action Faction is calling for a gathering to
review, heal, analyze, and strategize from the events surrounding the
Miami actions, to take place from December 29, 2003 through January
1st, 2004. A focus will also be placed upon networking more
effectively on a regional basis (so if you are from the midwest, get on
over here, yo!).
We are also fully aware of the holiday on Jan 1st 2004, so it would
only be appropriate to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Zapatista
Uprising.
*We are aiming for this gathering to be more relaxed and festive than
the planning process for Miami. With this in mind, we hope that
everyone who comes to Chicago bring with them their best ideas,
skills, talents, and warm jackets! There will be plenty of time for
workshops or skillshares, so please get in contact with us if you feel
you have something great to share.
So... in other words, this isnt a consulta! Come prepared for: snowball
fights, gravesite visits (gotta see emma!), parties, and
rabble-rousin?. Don?t forget bring some extra cash for public
transit... a CTA fare hike goes into effect on New Years Day. The
price for transit jumps from 1.50 to 1.75 (from 1.80 to 2.00 with a
transfer).
Let us know if your coming in so we can get prepared! Please specify:
your name who else is in your traveling party what group/collective
are you with your contact information (phone +email) your reason for
wishing to attend if you need housing and how many people when you
will be arriving special housing needs other special needs
*Food: Basic help is needed to help feed all of those attending. please
advise us if you can help with any contributions of food or cooking
help.
send complete registration forms to
midwest_unrest_housing@yahoo.com ASAP!
A schedule of suggested events will be posted once it is ready, along
with a flyer.
