  25.Aug.03 - Sunday afternoon some 60 activists have dismantled the fence
around a center for minor unaccompanied asylum seekers in Dutch province of
Gelderland. The center is one of two locations where the Netherlands are trying
out a new approach towards young asylum seekers. The centers are supposed to
provide 'simple but humane spaces' wherein the asylum seekers can are 'prepared
for return and deportation'. In practice this means that the minors are kept
isolated from the rest of society and are subjected to a strict regime based on
punishments and rewards. Over the course of the year the detainees in both
centers have repeatedly rebelled against their treatment. During Sundays
actions the detained refugees first cheered at he activists before starting to
help them with dismantling the fences (see pictures). After having dismantled
the entire fence the activists stopped their symbolic action and left the scene.
