A new SQUATTED SOCIAL CENTRE is opening in NEWTOWN, this Sunday 24th August.
Squatted social centres exist all over the world and provide valuable safe
spaces for activists and communities. The Newtown social centre will be an open
and democratically run organising space from which to fight campaigns and hold
free gigs/parties/meetings. We also hope that the social centre will be a
working example of an alternative to the everyday system of boredom, violence
and capitalism. It will be an autonomous space for you to use!

But squatted social centres require the support of a community in order to
function. Since the social centre will be a direct challenge to the notions of
private property and user-pays services it will come under attack from
police/govt/owners quite quickly. We need YOU to use the space and protect it,
so that it remains open.

So come to the opening day/evening on Sunday 24th; there’ll be free films and
art. Bring along a plate of food and/o
r your own films/art to show. Or drop in/come to a gig later in the week. Call
0402 522 485 after 12pm on Sunday for the location.

Or help us in the next week as we gear up for the occupation. Tell us if you
can help with tools, furniture, barricading, putting up posters/leaflets or
