National Anarchist demonstration against war and militarism
Saturday 2nd February 2002


The War does not need you.
You do not need the war.

You need men in order to make war. You need soldiers who are ready to 
kill and be killed. You need workers to run the economic machine more
and better than in peacetime, workers to make the arms used for killing. 
You need mothers and fathers who bring up their children to be good
citizens ready to fight. You need teachers and professors to explain to 
us why we should fight. You need journalists to report the situation in 
such a way that we all understand how good war is. You need artists and
intellectuals to show that ours is the best possible world.

We, as young potential recruits, declare that we are draft-resisters, we
totally refuse the idea of military service, we are conscientious
objectors.
We who serve in the armed forces declare we will desert; we who are 
exempted but held to be available for service by law until the age of 45
declare that we will not answer the call-up.
We, as women, declare that we will not volunteer for armed service.
We, as workers, refuse to lend our physical or intellectual labour to
any activity connected in any way with this war.
We, as parents, declare that we will educate our children to disobey
those who one day may ask them to fight in a war like this.
We, as teachers, journalists, artists and intellectuals, declare that
we will explain, describe and recount the absurdity of this war and its
opposition to human values, dignity and liberty.

All of us, here and now, will strive to build relationships between
individuals, a society based on liberty, equality and solidarity.
All of us, here and now, will strive to fight, with every means and
with all our force, all those who set their gods against men, against
all the warlords and death-merchants of the world, against all those
who exploit our lives for their own profit.

They say we are at war because they need us in order to fight it. We
do not need them.
War needs us. We do not need war.

The Correspondance Committee and the Anti-Militarist Committee of the
Italian Anarchist Federation support the appeal of the Turin Anarchist
Federation and announce a demonstration against the war and against
militarism for Saturday 2nd February 2002. The location of the demonstration 
will be communicated as soon as possible.
