(it) Anarchico Germinal: Croatia: cops of Europe - garrison before the consulate

Date Thu, 21 Feb 2019 09:47:27 +0200

The Balkan route becomes increasingly dangerous: il-legal pushbacks are a daily practice implemented through the coordination of the Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, and (sometimes) Italian police. ---- In 2016, the European Union signed an agreement with Turkey with which it outsources the dictatorship of Erdogan the duty to stop by all means migrant people moving to Europe; moreover, the agreement declares Turkey as a "safe third country" and therefore allows people to be pushbacked from Greece to Turkey, in exchange for >3 billion European funding. ---- Despite the agreement, and despite thousands of people being trapped in Turkey and on the Greek islands, the Balkan route is still open and thousands of people are moving every day. Today, thousands of people are stuck in Bosnia and Serbia and from there they still try to cross borders, on foot or in other ways.

Every day the EU rejects people in transit at its borders. Croatia - which will enter the Schengen area in 2020 - continuously receives funding from the EU (up to now, more than 6 millions euros) to deport migrants to Bosnia and Serbia.

The Croatian police kidnap people, rob their money and mobile phones and beat them, even if they are minors. Croatian police coordinate with Slovenian and sometimes Italian police: people arriving in Italy or Slovenia are kidnapped and handed over to the police of the previous border. Every police and every state along the route are guilty.

On Saturday 23 February we will be in front of the Croatian Consulate in Trieste to denounce this systemic violence of the European Union, carried out by the Croatian police, and the responsibilities of Italy and the EU.

We will be there to say that there is only one way to end of this cycle of violence: destruction of every border and freedom of movement for everyone.
